36th FIMC: DANISH NATIONAL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA II

The Danish National Symphony Orchestra is coming to the Canary Islands for the first time as part of the 36º Festival Internacional de Música. And they are coming in “Danish style”: Carl Nielsen will be one of the protagonists of the double programme they are bringing to our Festival, under the baton of Spanish conductor Juanjo Mena.

In their Programme II for the 36th FIMC the Nordic ensemble will be accompanied by the great French cellist Jean-Guilhen Queyras, who is expected to give a brilliant interpretation of Dvorak’s Cello Concerto. Back to Nielsen, the Danish orchestra will open the concert with the overture ‘Mascarade’ and finish it with his Symphony nº 4.

Curiosity, diversity and integrity are the main features of Jean-Guihen Queyras’s artistic work (Montreal, 1967). Both on stage and his recordings convey a passionate artist who is utterly devoted to music with a humble, unpretentious approach to the score that is a clear statement of his essence.

Juanjo Mena (Vitoria, 1965), winner of the Premio Nacional de Música 2016 (for performance), is one of the most internationally renowned Spanish conductors. He is currently Principal Conductor of the Cincinnati May Festival and Associate Conductor of the Orquesta Nacional de España.
