The splendour of Baroque: polyphony, polychorality and organ is a concert of the Nova Ars Organorum series in the Festival de Música Antigua de Tenerife [Tenerife Early Music Festival]

If there is a style that defines the Spanish 17th century to perfection, that is the sumptuous world of polychoral works, which combined with classical polyphony and the ever-present organ music in churches, displays the skill of composers of the time to pass sounds along the naves of buildings in an admirable play of contrasts

and combinations. And what better example is there than Carlos Patiño, Felipe IV’s excellent chapel master, who has more than a hundred polychoral works in his catalogue? And, what better temple to experience it than San Agustín church in La Orotava with its high and spacious naves and its German Baroque organ?  This is sure to be a most enjoyable experience.
