A Festival de Música Antigua de Tenerife [Tenerife Early Music Festival] concert, included in the Nova Ars Organorum series.

A distinct and distant repertoire in both time and space to once again display the countless possibilities offered by the great organ at Auditorio de Tenerife. A journey from Central Europe Baroque (featuring Bach with a youthful work that brims with the overpowering energy of his early creations) to late 20th century Spain (José Luis Turina with a 1990 composition, which in our view stands out among other compositions for the organ by contemporary Spanish authors); we make a stopover at Victorian London where the great virtuoso William Thomas Best (1826-1897) offers a polished transcription of the «Minuet» (of imposing dignity…) of Handel’s opera Berenice; we then go on to turn-of-the-century Munich where in the Scherzoso and Passacaglia of his eighth sonata, Herr Professor Rheinberger overcomes the academicism that often weighs down his work. We will conclude with a piece that is particularly dear to Spanish organists: the Tryptic of the Good Shepherd, an unquestionable landmark of the organ repertoire in our country.
