From the 3rd to the 6th of June, the Arts of Movement Festival FAM 2021 programmes 24 shows in five premises: Auditorio de Tenerife, Espacio La Granja, Paraninfo de la ULL, Teatro Guimerá and the scenic space Centro de Arte La Recova.
The Arts of Movement Festival FAM 21 presents 'El hijo' (The son), the new work by Daniel Abreu, winner of the Spanish National Dance Award 2014.
"Since the beginning of my career designing performances, I have moved between non-linear narratives. It flows naturally; in doing so, I explore fragmented physical spaces combined with open spaces, changing light and eclectic soundtracks. I conceive the movements along with lighting, space and rhythm, always changing. The work has layers; they move around a concept that captures my curiosity; in this case, it has been the concept of “descendants”. 'El hijo' (The son) talks about our link with parents, with a place and how we manage it. Our off-springs. In a way, it is a question of understanding ourselves as individuals who become independent although we are deeply tied to a repetition of forms and facts. This can only be partially explained as, in the end, individuals always carry with them a reinterpretation of life stories, like echoes.
A person in nature, the magic of being born, of growing up with a link to what is primary and to culture; from there, we are linked to what shapes us as a person and our path. I present a descendant through these poetics of image and sound. I refer to the magic of being born, to grow up linked to the primary and to culture; from there, we are linked to what shapes us as a person. Dance allows us to celebrate that we are alive, us having experience of being a child and its enthusiasm; the relationship with natural cycles and systems; and, in this, the set of reactions inside and outside that make us exist.
This work alternates between the body - understood as mobile and conscious - and other invisible worlds that affect us and guide us along paths; we physically feel them when we face events that are projected like lights and shadows. We are affected by emotions, by contexts, by events in nature. This is how I present the performance of 'El hijo' (The son).
