Concert tour in the Canary Islands and in Andalusia by the Youth Orchestra of the Canary Islands (JOCAN)
The Auditorio de Tenerife hosts the Youth Orchestra of the Canary Islands in concert.
The Department of Education, Universities, Culture and Sport of the Government of the Canary Islands includes the Youth Orchestra of the Canary Islands – JOCAN programme, which was presented in 2016 as a unique platform on a regional level for the orchestral training and practice of young regional musicians. To implement this project, the so-called “Encuentros” (Events) are organised; it consists of a series of gatherings at which JOCAN offers a concert tour.
For the next Event 19, based on the island of Tenerife, the JOCAN will perform a concert tour, with two concerts in the Canary Islands and two in Andalusia. 4 July in Tenerife and 5 July in Gran Canaria, and 8 July in Almería and 9 July in Baeza.
At these concerts, the line-up will be formed by over 60 regional musicians, who, conducted by the maestro Víctor Pablo Pérez, will perform the Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 54, by Robert Schumann with Rafal Blechacz as a soloist (first time with the JOCAN); the Symphony No. 8 in B minor, D. 759 by Franz Schubert and the Cantos Canarios by Teobaldo Power, arranged by Santiago Sabina.
Víctor Pablo Pérez has been the artistic director of JOCAN since 2016.
Rafal Blechacz is the winner of the 15th Frédéric Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland, as well as of all the special prizes of the Competition. He has played at the most famous and prestigious concert halls in the world, playing with the best symphony orchestras and under the direction of acclaimed conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Mikhail Pletnev, Charles Dutoit, David Zinman, Fabio Luisi, Jerzy Semkow and Trevor Pinnock. In 2006, he signed an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon, with whom he has made several recordings. His latest CD with pieces by Fauré, Debussy, Szymanowski, and Chopin, together with the Korean violinist Bomsori Kim, was launched in January 2019.
