Ópera de Tenerife presents The old maid and the thief by Gian Carlo Menotti.
A revival of this one-act chamber opera by Gian Carlo Menotti that we presented in January 2022 in four shows that were the Spanish première of this composition. The old maid and the thief was specifically created for radio shows, and it was released in 1939 through the airwaves of the American radio station NBC.
This work exposes the gossip and secrets of a seemingly quiet town. A comic opera with a fast and melodramatic pace. The success attained led the author of the music and libretto to adapt it in order to perform it on stage.
