Tchaikovsky’s First Symphony is like “winter reveries”, the beginning of a masterful symphonic career; on the other hand, we could see Reinecke’s Flute concerto as “autumn reveries”, with a post-Romantic Brahmsian aura and hints at Classicism. All this is contained within their specific nationalism, which Smetana’s The Bartered Bride also feeds on.
