16TH ROCE CONFERENCE
The Auditorio de Tenerife will host the 16th ROCE Conference, to be held from 23 to 25 April under the motto Tenemos un plan, ¿y ahora qué? La música como derecho cultural. (We have a plan, now what? Music as a cultural right.)
The conference is to bring together experts from Network of Organisers of Educational and Social Concerts (ROCE) and from European Network for Opera, Music and Dance Education (RESEO) to discuss the Cultural Rights Plan of Spain's Ministry of Culture. In particular, the discussions are to focus on Sustainable Development Goals and further exploration of the concept of sustainability, training and accessibility. The conference will also examine new collaborative initiatives to strengthen bonds within the scope of the EU. Registrations available on the ROCE website.

As one of the institutions collaborating with Network of Organisers of Educational and Social Concerts (ROCE), we recognise and assume with the community a social responsibility in keeping with our respect for the underlying values of our mission: to make music available to all citizens. The manner in which we do this is closely associated with our raison d'être as institutions that are open to society and to culture. The educational concerts that we organise create bonds among the values that are inherent to music and those that are basic to democracy and harmonised coexistence by providing concert-goers with unique experiences with great impact on their education and formation. The Ministry of Culture is preparing a series of participative and horizontal actions that will be defined shortly in the announcement of a strategic plan defending cultural rights and involving 13 areas of action. The ministry has indicated that the plan is intended to ‘ensure all citizens' enjoyment of and access to culture in conditions of equality through the promotion of cultural diversity and the protection of the rights of creators and sector professionals’. Nearly all of the said areas of action under study are related to activities and projects that are overseen by the members of our association. For this reason, we consider the 2025 ROCE conference – to be held under the motto ‘Tenemos un plan,…, ¿y ahora qué? La música como derecho cultural’ (Now that we have a plan, what's next? Music as a cultural right) – to be an opportunity for the practical refinement of our objectives with the results of the aforementioned plan. We have attempted to broaden the scope of reflection to include Europe by inviting European Network for Opera, Music and Dance Education (RESEO) to our scientific committee, which will allow us to consider other EU criteria under which music is considered a cultural right. Nonetheless, this undertaking will also involve dialogue, with contributions from experts and professionals in the fields of artistic mediation, education, participation, accessibility and creation, constituting an opportunity to think collectively about ways to more closely link music to the lives of the people in our communities. To this end, we have prepared a programme focussed on three main areas: sustainability and societal impact, training and new skills, and accessibility. The programme involves a combination of active work methodologies in workshops, the world-café format, examination of real-life examples and artistic activities. We envision an opportunity to collaborate more closely now and in the future with our European neighbours to discover new ways of understanding the sustainability of educational and social programmes.
