SÍLVIA PÉREZ CRUZ
The voice of Sílvia Pérez Cruz is one of the most emotive to emerge in recent years. Jorge Drexler defined it as ‘the kind of voice that marks a generation’. A singer and composer with eight solo recordings, she has collaborated with many artists from Spain and abroad. She frequently interacts with other forms of artistic expression such as dance, cinema, theatre or poetry. The prestigious honours she has received include the Goya Award for Best Original Song (‘Ai, ai, ai’, 2017), the Max Award for Best Composition for a Staged Show (‘Grito pelao’, 2019), and the Spanish National Award for Contemporary Music (2022) for ‘the creative and performative quality demonstrated throughout her career; the naturalness, versatility and boldness of her ideas; and her unfaltering commitment to beauty’. Her most recent recording, released in April 2023 and titled ‘Toda la vida, un día’ (Sony Music Spain), features the collaboration of guest artists such as Natalia Lafourcade and Salvador Sobral. Sílvia promoted this live recording in over 80 concerts between 2023 and 2024 in a tour of cities in Europe, Latin America, Asia (Japan) and the United States. In 2024, she performed at concerts of Snarky Puppy in New York and also in Washington, where she recorded a Tiny Desk Concert. More recently, she has performed live on several occasions with the project Territorios along with Liliana Herrero and Maria Gadú, she toured Europe and the United States with Damien Rice, she gave several concerts with Brazilian artist Zé Ibarra and she took part in two programmes with a symphonic orchestra, among other projects. Her participation in two songs of the recently released album of Residente "Las letras ya no importan" (Sony Music, 2024) showcases her projection and versatility and resulted in her first nomination to the Latin Grammy Awards (Best Song of the Year, along with Residente and Penélope Cruz for ‘313’). Her new recording ‘Lentamente’ with Argentine guitarist Juan Falú was released in November 2024, and the two artists returned to the principal venues of Spain and Argentina in November and December 2024.
