Mutilados en democracia
The theatre festival Muestra Escénica Iberoamericana (MEI) has programmed 'Mutilados en democracia'(Mutilated in democracy), a theatrical documentary proposal by the Chilean theatre company Colectivo Cuerpo Sur.
On 18 October 2019, the Chilean government announced an increase in underground fares. In a country full of huge inequality levels, it was the straw that broke the camel's back. Social infrastructures, such as health, education, and pensions, are fragile and too often a privilege of the richest. The situation fuelled public anger and led to a series of riots.
The documentary theatre project 'Mutilados en democracia' echoes these riots and gives voice to many of the insurgents and mutilated victims of police repression. Luis Guenel and Ébana Garín Coronel's timely fresco is a gesture against neoliberal monstrosity and a call for equality.
