Auditorio de Tenerife, a cultural venue under the Cabildo de Tenerife’s Department of Culture run by Enrique Arriaga, has announced the dates of the auditions for Ópera de Tenerife’s project Opera (e)Studio. The international tests will take place from 30 November to 18 December in four Italian and Spanish cities: Parma, Palermo, Madrid and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. If you are interested and have not applied yet you can do it until 6:00 pm on 10 November.
The singers chosen will take part in the eighth Opera (e)Studio, the comprehensive training academy for young artists directed by Giulio Zappa. They will go on stage on 18, 19, 20 and 21 March 2021 to perform Cimarosa’s Il matrimonio segreto, a co-production with Teatro Regio di Parma and Teatro Massimo di Palermo.
Apart from Zappa, the project, which is known internationally, will have Davide Levi as musical director and Roberto Catalano as stage director; the costumes will be designed by Ilaria Ariemme and the lighting design will be by Fiammetta Baldiserri.
The auditions were meant to take place between 11th and 19th May 2020 but had to be put off because of the health crisis. So, the new dates for the 2020 auditions, unless the health situation prevents it again, are as follows: 30 November and 1 December in Parma, 3 December in Palermo; 15 and 16 December in Madrid, and on 18 December in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The purpose of this programme for young artists is to provide highly specialized training in the international opera field while it is also a springboard for many of the young talents. Singers from more than 24 different countries -including the auditions- have taken part in previous years. Ópera (e)Studio also highlights Auditorio de Tenerife’s technical production work and in 2019 and 2020 was recognised by the European Commission’s programme Creative Europe, which shows the development, sustainability, job creation and training.
Auditorio de Tenerife, which is under the Department of Culture, Education, Youth, Museums and Sport of the Cabildo de Tenerife, run by councillor Concepción Rivero, is seeking for voices for its young choir. Registration for auditions is open as from today, [Monday, 31 August] to 18 September before 2.00 pm. You can register on the Auditions and Calls section of website www.auditoriodetenerife.com.
We’re seeking young tenors, baritones and basses aged 18 to 25 to join Auditorio de Tenerife’s Coro Juvenil this season, which is about to begin. In addition to these requirements, musical knowledge is an advantage and the candidate would need to have a flexible timetable and be available for rehearsals to suit the group’s plan at the Auditorio de Tenerife.
Once you fill in the application form online, you will receive a work that you must learn for the audition, which will take place from 21 September at the Auditorio de Tenerife.
Auditorio de Tenerife’s Coro Juvenil [Young Choir] carries out all their activity in agreement with the new safety and hygiene regulations. The island’s institution was the first auditorium in Spain to have its Contingency Plan to deal with Covid-19 certified by AENOR.
The Coro Juvenil de Auditorio de Tenerife was set up in 2016 under the Education and Social Department of Auditorio de Tenerife with Roxana Schmunk as director. It includes the voices of some thirty young people aged 16 to 30 and has become a leading group in the Canaries choral culture, having also captivated audiences in different countries.
It has been internationally recognised with five gold medals and two Jury’s special prize won at the European Choir Games, (Sweden, 2019) and at the Festival de Coros de Verão de Lisboa (Portugal, 2017 and 2018). They also took first prize at the Concurso de Canto Coral de Canarias (Spain, 2017). The Coro Juvenil de Auditorio de Tenerife has an increasingly successful record as they rise to new challenges.
At present the group is part of the Tenerife Artes Escénicas circuit [Tenerife Performing Arts circuit] and performs in activities designed to contribute to liven up and widen choral culture both on the island and in the rest of the Canaries. With an innovative staging, the Coro Juvenil sings a wide range of themes and music styles including sacred music, classical compositions, and contemporary music.
In their weekly rehearsals the pedagogical resources bring together emotion and art along with music learning, voice techniques and body language, with special emphasis on a real union among the singers aimed at achieving harmony to convey a unique sound chromaticism.
Auditorio de Tenerife, part of the Department of Culture, Education, Youth and Sport of the Cabildo de Tenerife, keeps working with the specialization academy Opera(e)Studio, which has made changes in its usual calendar. The current situation and its consequences in terms of safety and international mobility have led to the relocation of the auditions and the staging of the eighth opera, which is co-produced with Teatro Regio di Parma and Teatro Massimo di Palermo.
The auditions were meant to take place between 11 and 19 May 2020 in the Spanish municipalities of Madrid and Santa Cruz de Tenerife and in the Italian cities of Parma and Palermo. We are currently trying to find the best date at the end of the present year to carry out these tests safely and with all the health and quality guarantees for participating singers.
Therefore, the calendar of this Ópera de Tenerife programme has changed. The production of Il matrimonio segreto by Domenico Cimarosa, that was scheduled for October 2020, will now take place in the first quarter of 2021, provided that this exceptional situation allows it. Later, the production and the same cast will travel to the two co-producing theatres.
Although the registration deadline was on 19 April, Ópera de Tenerife announced registration is to be kept open. In fact, with the aim of offering the best options to interested artists, the registration period is extended until further notice. The audition dates will be published as soon as possible on the programme’s website www.operaestudio.eu.
