A WORKSHOP FOR KIDS ON 'HÄNSEL UND GRETEL'
Ópera de Tenerife organises the family workshop Mucho más que un cuento [Far more than a tale] coinciding with the performance of Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel as part of the 2018-2019 Ópera de Tenerife season and under the Ópera en Familia scheme. Performances are on 27 and 28 April.
The workshop is aimed at children aged 3 to 12 and is given by Natalia Díaz Llarena. It will help understand opera in general, and particularly this title, based on the tale by the Grimm brothers. The workshop includes games and deals with musical and stage creation, plot, the characters and Humperdinck’s melodies.
The activity is taking place on 13 April at Auditorio de Tenerife. It is divided in four sessions -two in the morning and two in the afternoon- arranged according to the child’s age. In both cases the maximum number of participants is 13 kids who can come with an adult. For the 3- to 6-year-olds, the workshop is from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm or from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Children aged 7 to 12 can come from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon or from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
Hänsel und Gretel is an Ópera de Tenerife production that has been adapted to be enjoyed by all the family. The show offers a combination of dialogues in Spanish and arias sung in its original language and subtitled. The musical director is Rubén Sánchez-Vieco and Stefania Panighini is the stage director.
Hänsel und Gretel was premiered on 23 December 1893 and the libretto, which was written by the composer’s sister, Adelheide Wetter, is about the adventures of two siblings who get lost in the forest while they are looking for strawberries. A world of chocolate houses and sweets, witches, forest creatures and, most of all, fantasy, is sure to thrill the kids who will love this good-fun, warm production whose style is close to the way children use their imagination. The score brings together popular songs and opera numbers carefully dealt with by Humperdinck, who uses a delicate language that is never monotonous or repetitive. A masterpiece that most of the audience will see for the first time, although it is widely performed in English-speaking countries.
Tickets can be booked here, at the box office from 10:00 am to 7:30 pm, Monday to Saturday, or calling 902 317 327.
