Tenor José Manuel Zapata is leading the Sinfónica de Tenerife for the first time with the show Concierto para Zapata y Orquesta. He will go over and parody the clichés and labels applied to classical music. This ninth subscription concert in the 2019-2020 season is taking place at 7:30 pm on Thursday, the 20th in the Auditorio de Tenerife, managed by Cabildo de Tenerife’s department of Culture, Education, Youth and Sport, which is led by councillor Concepción Rivero.

This new performance by the Tenerife orchestra, which is based on actor Danny Kaye’s shows with US orchestras that combined music and comedy, will also feature the staging of Tricicle’s Paco Mir, and Juan Francisco Padilla as musical director and arranger.

As it coincides with the Carnival festivities in the city, the programme, which the conductor himself defined as “festive, good fun and teasing”, includes a broad repertoire encompassing different periods, composers and styles. It is a formula that introduces humorously scores that the general public know well.

The Granada conductor and tenor José Manuel Zapata started his singing studies in Madrid with Toñi Rosado Casas, and improved them at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Valencia. Shortly after, he began singing as a soloist and in 2002 he started to perform on major international stages including New York’s Metropolitan Opera House, Teatro Real de Madrid, Teatro del Liceo de Barcelona, Deutsche Oper in Berlin, Dresden Semper Oper, Reggio Di Parma, Massimo de Palermo, Rossini Opera Festival, Teâtre Chatelet, Champs Elysees in Paris or Teather An der Wien.

As author, this versatile artist has written and co-directed the following shows: Óperame, Los Divinos, El hombre que se llamaba Amadeus and Barrockeros. He also collaborates in different radio and TV programmes where he encourages the spread of classical music through his professional experience.

The Auditorio de Tenerife organises a  workshop on stage design by architect and expert set designer Ricardo Sánchez Cuerda. This cultural space is under the Department of Culture, Education, Youth and Sport of the Cabildo de Tenerife, led by Councillor Concepción Rivero. The course runs from 16th to 18th March from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Ricardo Sánchez Cuerda has a long career in theatre set design having worked in both classical and contemporary repertoires, in addition to other genres of the performing arts like dance, zarzuela, opera or musicals.

The workshop will deal with basic topics to handle a project, taking as reference Maurice Ravel’s L'heure espagnole. It is a short, amusing, and simple opera ideal to go over the whole stage process step by step.

On the first day, general issues will be dealt with such as the general approach to a creative stage process, the director-stage designer relationship plus text analysis and dramaturgy applied to the stage.

The second day, the approach chosen will be applied to the text including its analysis, points of view, influence of the space on the story and the stage, real space and space-time applied to the text.

On the third day the practical proposals applied to the chosen text will be discussed; you will learn the rudiments of the psychologic view of space; we’ll discuss the antagonist space and the proposals made will be assessed before reaching a conclusion.

Ricardo Sánchez Cuerda studied architecture at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid specialising in building. He has worked for major national and international opera houses in works like El pintor de Colomer (stage director A. Boadella, Teatros del Canal), Der Kaiser von Atlantis by Ullmann (G. Tambascio, Teatro Real, Madrid), Brundibár by Krása (S. Gómez, Teatro Real, Madrid), Verdi’s Don Carlo  (A. Boadella, Teatro Auditorio San Lorenzo de El Escorial), La bohème by Puccini (A. Romero, Denmark National Opera), Giordano’s Andrea Chenier (A. Romero, Festival Castell de Peralada), Idomeneo by Mozart (J. Lavelli, Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires), etc.

He has designed the sets for the musicals Billy Elliot (D. Serrano, stage director), Cabaret (J. Azpilicueta), Sunset Boulevard (J. Azpilicueta), Hoy no me puedo levantar (D. Ottone), Sonrisas y lágrimas (J. Azpilicueta) and Más de 100 mentiras (D. Serrano), among others.

His works for the theatre include Divinas palabras by Valle-Inclán (G. Vera, stage director), Shelley’s Frankenstein (G. Tambascio), Lúcido by Spregelburd (A. Ochandiano), Antigone by Sophocles (M. García Lozano), The Miser by Molière (J. Lavelli), Ibsen’s A Doll’s House (A. Ochandiano), Splendid's by Genet (J. C. Plaza) and Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (T. Townsend), among many others.

He has also worked with the Ballet Nacional de España [Spanish National Ballet] in The Heart of Jade (choreography by J. Antonio) and Negro Goya (J. Antonio). He has designed the sets for El amor brujo / El sombrero de tres picos (C. Vilán, Bucharest National Opera House), Baile de máscaras (Rojas y Rodríguez), El bestiario (N. Castejón), El amor brujo (M. Carrasco) and A Floresta do Amazonas (B. Cezario, Teatro Amazonas, Manaos).

Javier Laso will play Pianísimo, the new concert of the Creativa Música Panhispánica [Pan-Hispanic Creative Music]. The recital will be on Sunday, the 16th at 12:00 noon at Auditorio de Tenerife’s Sala de Cámara. This venue is under the Department for Culture, Education, Youth and Sport of the Cabildo de Tenerife, led by councillor Concepción Rivero.

In the first part of the concert, Javier Laso will play Variaciones sobre un tema de Chopin by Federico Mompou (1893-1987, Barcelona). After the break comes Fantasia baetica by Manuel de Falla (1876, Cádiz- 1946, Argentina) followed by Danzas argentinas, Danza del viejo boyero, Danza de la moza donosa and Danza del gaucho matrero by Alberto Ginastera (1916, Buenos Aires-1983, Geneva). The concert closes with Cantos canarios by Teobaldo Power (1848, Santa Cruz de Tenerife-1884, Madrid).

Javier Laso was born in 1975 in Fribourg, Switzerland. He graduated with “Extraordinario de Piano” from the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Salamanca and studied at the Franz Liszt Academy. He received different grants from the Fundación Caixa Girona, Fundación Isaac Albéniz, the Spanish Ministry of Culture and has won several awards in different competitions including Frechilla-Zuloaga (Valladolid), María Canals (Barcelona) and First Prize and Extraordinary Prize at Gran Canaria’s Pedro Espinosa competition.

As a soloist he has performed in France, Girona, Salamanca, and Tenerife, and has collaborated with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla-León, Bolshoi Theatre Chamber Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Cartagena, Orquesta Sinfónica de Sant Cugat and Orquesta Joven de Salamanca. His recordings include works by Scriabin, Schubert, Debussy and Bartok (RNE), M. Bonín’s sonatas or J.S Bach’s Goldberg Variations. He has been a teacher at Conservatorio Superior de Música de Salamanca and teaches piano at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias since 2001.

The last concert in the series, Lírica, is taking place on the 14 March at 7:30 pm. The voice of Rosina Herrera and Nauzet Mederos’s piano will perform compositions by Ernesto Halffter (1905-1989, Madrid), Antón G. Abril (1933, Teruel), Blanca Báez (1920-2018, Canary Islands), Luis Cobiella (1925-2013, La Palma), Isaac Albéniz (1860, Spain-1909, France), Lothar Siemens (1941-2017, Gran Canaria), Carlos Guastavino (1912-2000, Argentina) and Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959, Rio de Janeiro).

Auditorio de Tenerife and Asociación Tinerfeña de Amigos de la Música (Atadem) [Tenerife Friends of Music Association] present this new series with the aim of spreading unusual music on the Island. It is coordinated by Conrado Álvarez and Rosario Álvarez is the artistic director.  Ms. Álvarez explained that they will approach “music by Canarian composers and Latin American music, as very little of their huge piano, singing or chamber repertoires is known here”. 

This week the Laboratorio de Artes Vivas Tenerife LAV [Tenerife Live Arts Lab] starts its first residence at the Espacio La Granja, a space in Tenerife capital city that is managed by the Government of the Canary Islands. Creator, choreographer and choral singer Amalia Fernández and performer, choreographer and creator who has trained in dancing Juan Domínguez have met again on the island 12 years after their last work together. Both artists will be working on their project Entre tú y yo [Between you and me] throughout February.

The first public activity of this residence of Auditorio de Tenerife’s project, whose founder and main funder is the Cabildo de Tenerife, through its department of Culture, Education, Youth and Sport led by Concepción Rivero, is taking place tomorrow [Thursday] at the Biblioteca Municipal de La Laguna Adrián Alemán. The event is entitled “Dejarse leer” and in it Fernández will read some passages of A la conquista del cuerpo equivocado, by Miquel Missé, published by Colección G.

Entre tú y yo is a circumstance, a situation, different things put together that have allowed Amalia Fernández and Juan Domínguez to meet again and devote time and space to the very fact of getting together for the second time. The starting point is Shichimi Togarashi (2006), their earlier and first work together. At present, 12 years have gone by full of personal, professional, political, public, and private experiences that have shaped them both as individuals and as artists.

Shichimi Togarashi was the first time they met, they got to know each other personally and creatively and shared their knowledge and imagery; it was also a chance to understand how to do something between two individuals. “There was some kind of deformed harmony and the wish to understand and be the other”, the artists explained. They will be showing the processes of their new work on Wednesday the 26 at La Granja. The time is to be confirmed.

Auditorio de Tenerife’s Sala de Cámara, managed by the Department of Culture, Youth, Education and Sport of the Cabildo de Tenerife which is led by councillor Concepción Rivero, will host Quantum Ensemble’s concert Espejos on Thursday, the 13th at 7:30 pm. The ensemble will be joined by renowned clarinettist Romain Guyot and the Lendvai String Trio (on their 15th anniversary) to deal with an unusual repertoire that includes three works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Francis Poulenc and Bohuslav Martinů. Clarinettist Cristo Barrios, founding member of Quantum Ensemble, rounds off the event.

Carlos Santos, conductor and presenter of Radio Nacional de España’s programme Entre dos luces, will give a talk at the Sala de Cámara one hour before the concert to introduce both the programme and the musicians’ biographies to the audience. Admission to the talk is free of charge.

This concert presents three works of music which are seldom included in today’s programmes. Víctor Durà-Vilà, lecturer at the University of Leeds, explained that “these are pieces that show different kinds of affinities and contrasts among themselves” and the time difference between the three composers “seems shortened by the adherence of these last two composers [Poulenc and Martinů] to the postulates of neoclassicism in a very important part of their compositions and the unavoidable influence which Mozart exercised over those following this trend”.

Espejos starts with Mozart’s Divertimento in E Flat Major, K 563 (1788) for violin, viola and violoncello. After the break they will play the Sonata for two clarinets fp 7 (1918) by Martinů. The concert will end with all the musicians onstage to perform Serenade in F Major for two clarinets and string trio Nº 4, H 334 (1951).

Quantum Ensemble’s first activity this week starts tomorrow [Wednesday, the 12th] at 10:00 am with a masterclass by Romain Guyot for students of the island’s conservatoires. At 16, Romain Guyot was named the first clarinet of the European Union Youth Orchestra. Five years later, he was named the first clarinet of the Orchestre National de l’Opéra de Paris. In 1996 he won the Young Concert Artist International Auditions in New York, one of the greatest honours for a young soloist, as well as the Munich ARD competition with the Debussy Wind Quintet. As a soloist, he has played in Europe, Japan, Korea, China, South America and the United States. He currently teaches at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève, in Switzerland, and at the National University of Seoul, Korea. In addition, he is the first clarinet of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.

At 5:00 pm on Wednesday in the Sala de Cámara, Quantum Ensemble will give an outreach concert: a sensitive musical session for groups of young people that is carried out with the help of volunteers of Obra Social “la Caixa”, an institution that collaborates with Auditorio de Tenerife’s Education and Social Department.

Simultaneously, another activity of this department will take place: the second theoretical session of the Taller de Comunicación Didáctica para la Música [Workshop on Didactic Communication for Music], that includes teaching resources, a talk and presentation by Belén Otxotorena, who is an actor, narrator and dramatization teacher.   The lesson will be put into practice the following day, Thursday the 13th at 11:00 am in the Sala de Cámara, with 300 students coming from seven secondary schools in the municipalities Arafo, Arona, Los Realejos, Puerto de la Cruz and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Entitled Schumann II, this is the eighth concert of Sinfónica de Tenerife in the 2019-2020 season. It is taking place on Friday, the 14th at 7:30 pm in the Auditorio de Tenerife under the baton of its principal conductor, Antonio Méndez. The concert also features violinist Veronika Eberle who on her first performance with the Tenerife ensemble will be playing solo.

The first part of this programme devoted to German composer Robert Schumann includes Genoveva, Overture, op. 81 and Violin and orchestra concerto in D minor, Woo 23, plus Symphony nº 2 in D minor, op. 61.

The principal conductor of Sinfónica de Tenerife since the 2018/2019 season, Antonio Méndez, is one of the most sought-after and best-established conductors in his generation. He has built close links with the leading orchestras in Europe and has conducted international orchestras like Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, hr-Sinfonieorchester, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Staatskapelle Dresden, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic or Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg.

The talent of the German violinist Veronika Eberle has been recognised by the finest orchestras, venues and festivals as well as by top international conductors who have defined it as “balanced and musically mature”. Järvi), Bamberg Orchestra (Ticciati, Nott), Tonhalle Orchestra, Zurich (M. Sanderling), NHK Philharmonic (Kout, Stenz, Norrington) and Rotterdam Philharmonic (Rattle, Gaffigan, Nézet-Seguin).

Ópera de Tenerife brings Lucrezia Borgia, the fourth title of the season, to nine municipalities on the island through the informative scheme Ópera en Ruta [Itinerant Opera]. By means of 60-minute talks, which are admission free, the main features of the work will be revealed. The opera is to be performed on 17, 19 and 22 March at 7:30 pm at Auditorio de Tenerife’s Sala Sinfónica.

In addition to talking about the ins and outs of Lucrezia Borgia, Ópera en Ruta will also seek to undo some myths about the world of opera such as its supposed elitism and dress code, language barriers in performances and even Auditorio de Tenerife’s ticket sale channels, discounts and special rates.

There will be nine afternoon talks held in different libraries of the island’s Bibliotecas Públicas [Public Libraries Network]. The first two talks are taking place next week at 7:00 pm: on Tuesday, the 11 at the Biblioteca Tomás de Iriarte in Puerto de la Cruz and on Wednesday, the 12^th at the Biblioteca Municipal in Tabaiba. The following events will be on Tuesday, the 18th at the Biblioteca de Garachico at 5:00 pm and Wednesday, the 19^th at the Biblioteca Pública del Estado (La Granja) in Santa Cruz at 7:00 pm.

The March talks are starting on Tuesday, the 3rd at the Biblioteca Municipal in Güímar at 7:00 and on Wednesday the 4^th at the Biblioteca Municipal de la Villa de Adeje at 6:30 pm. Finally, the last three talks are all at 7:00 pm: on Thursday, the 5th at the Biblioteca Municipal in La Orotava, Tuesday, the 10th at the Biblioteca Adrián Alemán de Armas in La Laguna and on Wednesday, the 11^th at the Biblioteca Municipal in Candelaria.

Lucrezia Borgia is a melodrama in a prologue and two acts with music by Gaetano Donizetti and libretto by Felice Romani. It is based on a drama, with the same title, by the French writer Victor Hugo. It was premiered at the Teatro alla Scala de Milan on 26 December 1833. The composer looks deeply into the morbid legend of Pope Alessandro VI’s daughter who grew up in a family surrounded by rumours of incest, adultery, infidelity, betrayal, murder and horror, creating a strong psychological portrait of a powerful but fragile woman.

Danza en Comunidad  starts the new term by opening a call to take part in La gran cita a ciegas [The great Blind Date], the show they are currently working on which will close the Festival Internacional de las Artes del Movimiento FAM [International Movement  Arts Festival]. It is also starting a new scheme,  Formación a formadores, [Training trainers] for those who wish to receive community dance tools in order to apply them in their work.

This year Danza en Comunidad will work with twelve local groups: Asociación Aldis, Asociación Padre Laraña, Asociación de Padres Orobal, Centro Ocupacional San Miguel Amisur, Biblioteca Municipal Adrián Alemán de Armas, Centro de Adultos Hermano Pedro, Centro Municipal de Acogida – Servicio: Centro de Día, el Centro Penitenciario Tenerife 2, Centro de Integración Social Mercedes Pinto, Fundación de Juventud Canaria IDEO – CIEMI Valle Tabares, Programa La Casita – Oblatas and Proyecto Mujeres de Añaza Emprendedoras – Fundación el Buen Samaritano.

Danza en Comunidad is an artistic and outreach project included in Auditorio de Tenerife’s Education and Social Department under the Tenerife Danza scheme, although they carry out their activity out of the building too. The project aims to create different options to make dance available to all kinds of people, groups or associations that need to work using professional tools. The main and ultimate goal of Danza en Comunidad is to make up a community that provides mediation and resources for dance and movement.

Ópera de Tenerife has opened the call to take part in the eighth Opera (e)Studio, the high specialization academy for young artists, a scheme shared with two theatres in Italy: the Teatro Regio di Parma and the Teatro Massimo di Palermo. This time Ópera de Tenerife has chosen the title Il matrimonio segreto by Domenico Cimarosa. At the auditions, to take place at the two Italian theatres, at the Auditorio de Tenerife and at the Escuela Superior de Canto de Madrid, the young artists will have the chance to show the talent, quality and excellence of their work.

Ópera de Tenerife’s team of professionals will start working with the selected singers in September through to the production of the opera which is to be put on four times from 22 to 25 October 2020 at Auditorio de Tenerife’s Sala Sinfónica. The same cast will also perform Il matrimonio segreto at theTeatro Regio di Parma and at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo in 2021.

Opera (e)Studio will be holding the auditions in four cities - on 11 and 12 May at the Escuela Superior de Canto de Madrid; on 14 and 15 May at the Teatro Regio di Parma; on 17 May at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo and finally, at the  Auditorio de Tenerife on 19 May.

The candidates entering the selection process will have to perform, according to the role they are applying for, the compulsory arias of Il matrimonio segreto by Domenico Cimarosa; and two arias of other comic operas (or intermezzi) in Italian by Pergolesi, Galuppi, Piccinni, Paisiello, Cimarosa, Haydn, Salieri, Mozart or Rossini, one of which must include a recitative. All the arias, including the excerpts of the role in Il matrimonio segreto, are to be sung by heart.

Candidates can enter for more than one role. The titles requested for the five roles are the following: Geronimo (bass, baritone or bass-baritone) the aria Udite, tutti, udite, the recitative Questa invero è curiosa and the duet Se fiato in Corpo avete; Elisetta (soprano or mezzo soprano) the aria Se son vendicara; Carolina (mezzo soprano or contralto) the aria E vero che in casa; Conte Robinson (bass, baritone or bass-baritone) the introduzione entitled Cara, non dubitar, the recitative Or sappi, sposa mia and the aria Pria che spunti in ciel l’aurora.

The aim of Ópera de Tenerife’s scheme for young artists is to provide holistic, highly specialized training in international opera singing. In these eight years singers from more than 24 different countries have taken part. Ópera (e)Studio has been the showcase and springboard for artists who are nowadays part of the opera world.

This programme by Ópera de Tenerife has also highlighted the work done at Auditorio de Tenerife’s production workshops, having been recognised by the European Commission’s Creative Europe scheme, which shows the development, sustainability, job creation and training in 2019 and 2020.

Don Quixote’s epic heroism will lead Sinfónica de Tenerife’s seventh concert in the 2019-2020 season. It is taking place at 7:30 pm on Friday, the 7th at the Auditorio de Tenerife under the baton of its principal conductor, Antonio Méndez.

The concert, which features two works by composer Richard Strauss, includes the solo performances of cellist Raúl Mirás and viola player Sviatoslav Belonogov. Also, violinist Birgit Kolar will play as leader of the orchestra with a Carlo Bergonzi violin, manufactured in Cremona, Italy, in 1723 and belonging to the instrument collection of Austria’s National Bank.

The programme of Don Quijote y el héroe includes the symphonic poems Don Quixote, op. 35 and Ein Heldenleben, TrV 190/op. 40 that depict the literary Castilian figure as a hero, a madman, and an adventurer in a dazzling conjunction of symphonic poems, which were envisioned by the German composer at the same time and complementarily.

Galicia cellist Raúl Mirás studied at the Conservatorio Superior de Música del País Vasco, with Asier Polo, Master at the Musik-Akademie Basel (Switzerland) with Thomas Demenga, plus Master and Konzertexam at the Hochschule für Musik Rostock with Julian Steckel. He has performed solo with Orquesta Gaos, Orquesta Sinfónica de Musikene, FRSinfonieorchester Rostock of the Joven Orquesta del Principado de Asturias. He has also given recitals in Spain, Italy, Switzerland and Germany and has taken part in festivals like Festival Bal y Gay, Zermatt Festival, Akademie Rutesheim, Festival Turina, Gustav Mahler Academy, Montreux Festival or Lucerne Festival.

Kazak viola Sviatoslav Belonogov graduated at the Russian Music Academy with Vyacheslav Trushin, were he studied a Master of Fine Arts (1992). In 1988 he won the Soviet Union National Viola Competition in Lviv and in 1993 he was the winner at D. Shostakovich String Quartet International Competition. He has been a member of the Russian National Orchestra and a soloist at the Maliy State Symphony Orchestra, and Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra. He has been soloist viola of Tenerife Symphony Orchestra since 1997.

La obra Eti-Queta, elegida Mejor espectáculo infantil en los últimos Premios Réplica de las Artes Escénicas de Canarias, cobra vida este domingo [día 2] a las 17:00 horas en el Teatro Guiniguada de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Se trata de una propuesta educativa de la compañía TP Danza del Auditorio de Tenerife pensada para niños de 6 a 12 años. Esta puesta en escena se desarrolla en un peculiar laboratorio de luces y sonidos donde un doctor trata de crear seres humanos ideales.

El mismo día pero a las 12:00 horas tendrá lugar en el hall del teatro en el marco de su Domingo de Autoría un encuentro con Helena Berthelius, bailarina, coreógrafa y profesora de danza que coordina la Unidad Pedagógica de Tenerife Danza, que lidera este espectáculo.

La historia de Eti-Queta comienza con la apertura del primer laboratorio de personas, donde se fabrican prototipos con cualidades humanas y se busca la perfección pero ¿qué es ser perfecto? ¿Qué es ser humano? A través del etiquetado se van proponiendo habilidades y se ponen en práctica. El resultado, sin embargo, es una incógnita.

La inteligencia de este laboratorio, con Máster G y su ordenador central al mando, ha sido capaz de crear los seres más maravillosos, aunque tal vez no son capaces de controlarlo todo. En esta propuesta multidisciplinar el público también es importante. Gracias a sus aportaciones, podrán aparecer nuevas fórmulas creativas que darán libertad a Eti y Queta para ser quienes ellos quieran.

Elegidos por convocatoria pública, los actores y bailarines Luci Acosta (Queta), Daniel Sanginés (Máster G) y Oliver Segura (Eti) conforman el reparto de Eti-Queta, cuya dirección artística, guías didácticas y coordinación artística y pedagógica lleva la firma de Berthelius.

El equipo se completa con Isabel Díaz, ayudante de dirección, coguionista y responsable de la dramaturgia; Samuel Aguilar, autor de la música original y los efectos sonoros; Eduardo Moreno, escenógrafo; Leo Martínez, diseñador del vestuario y atrezzo; Dimas Cedrés, encargado de la iluminación; y Simone Marin, que firma los vídeos.

The Coro Juvenil de Auditorio de Tenerife, conducted by Roxana Schmunk, has been selected to take part in the 11th World Choir Games 2020, one of the top world competitions to be held from 5 to 15 July in Flanders, Belgium.

The ensemble, resident at Auditorio de Tenerife, makes its debut in this prestigious competition only three years after being set up. The group has already won several international prizes, including the gold medals at the European Choir Games in Gothenburg last July. 

The Cabildo’s councillor for Culture, Youth, Education and Sport, Concepción Rivero, said that “we’re proud to see the development of this ensemble, which has reached a high level in Europe within a short period of time, as they have won different competitions. Their fresh mise-en-scene is worth noting as it outdoes traditional choral singing canons”.

The Coro Juvenil will have the chance to share the stage with more than 21,000 singers of 542 choirs from 69 countries in a historic World Choir Games, as it is welcoming the largest number of candidates since it started 20 years ago.

The Tenerife ensemble will be competing at the Mixed Youth Choirs and Música Sacra with accompaniment, two of the 27 categories included in the competition.

The traditional Arrorró, arranged by Beatriz Corona, and Cuando te beso, by Juan Luis Guerra arranged by César Alejandro Corrillo, Daniel Elder’s Ballade To the Moon and Let my Love Be Heard by Jake Runestad make up the repertoire the Auditorio de Tenerife’s Coro Juvenil will perform in the Mixed Youth Choir category.

Regarding Música Sacra with accompaniment, the songs included are Laudate Dominum by Giuseppe Ottavio Pitoni, Pater Noster by Giuseppe Verdi, Light in Us by Kin André Arnesen and lastly, Jake Runestad’s I Will Lift Mine Eyes.

In addition, the Coro Juvenil de Auditorio de Tenerife will be guest performer at the Friendship Concert, one of the parallel activities of the event. They will sing Ansia de Mar by Rafael Arozarena and Julio Domínguez’s Ballade to the Moon and Cuando te beso.
