Over a hundred musicians will participate in this concert as part of the Primavera Musical cycle.

The Municipal Band of San Miguel de Abona will open the performance of the municipal wind bands in the Primavera Musical cycle. The concert this Sunday (23rd March), starting at 11:30 a.m., also includes the participation of the concert bands from Arona and El Sauzal, bringing the total number of musicians on stage at the Chamber Hall of the Auditorio de Tenerife to over 120. Entry is free until the total capacity is reached.

Marvin Martín will conduct the wind band from San Miguel de Abona – established in 1988 and currently comprising 45 musicians – in two pieces from their repertoire: the pasodoble Marina Civera, which composer Manuel Morales dedicated to the Fallera Mayor (Queen of the Fallas festival) of Valencia in 2019, and Excalibur, a work by José Alberto Pina created in 2013, commissioned by the Ferreries Band in Menorca.

The concert band from Arona, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary, will perform two pieces this Sunday under the direction of Juan Antonio Rancel: Dunkirk by José Alberto Pina, and Malagueña Barxeta, by Azael Tormo. Dunkirk premiered in 2020 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Operation Dynamo, which took place during World War II. Malagueña Barxeta is a popular song from the Valencia region, which Maestro Tormo has adapted for wind band performance.

The concert will conclude with a performance by the wind band San Pedro, which comes to the Auditorio de Tenerife from the municipality of El Sauzal. This ensemble, founded in 1987, will take the stage under the direction of Jairo Cabrera. The programme begins with the Christian march David by Ramón García i Soler. It continues with Aquarium by Johan de Meij, and concludes with the popular My Way, arranged by Naohiro Iwai.

The concert cycle ‘Primavera Musical’ is an initiative by the Tenerife Wind Bands Federation in collaboration with the Tenerife Island Council. The next event will be on 30th March, featuring performances by the Sociedad Filarmónica Nivaria from Arafo, the Agrupación Musical of Garachico, and the La Victoria de Acentejo wind band.
