The vocalist and the pianist will perform a concert showcasing both traditional repertoire and new compositions.
This Saturday, 22 March, at 7.30 p.m., the Auditorio de Tenerife will host fado in its Chamber Hall, featuring the singer Camané and the pianist Mário Laginha. The Portuguese artists unveil their project, Aqui está-se sossegado (It’s Peaceful Here), which combines songs from the traditional fado repertoire with new compositions.
Having previously collaborated in several concerts, the fluid rapport of Camané and Mário Laginha’s sporadic collaborations in the past has led to this new project: Aqui está-se sossegado (It’s Peaceful Here). This new project is built from the ground up to accommodate a voice and a piano that have allied ever since their first encounter.
Aqui está-se sossegado was a hit, becoming very popular in Portugal and topping the domestic charts. In 2019, following a series of highly acclaimed concerts nationwide, the duo garnered multiple awards, including Best Album and Best Fado Album at the Play Awards.
This concert of Aqui está-se sossegado will include some 20 songs from the traditional fado repertoire and that of Camané, in addition to a series of new compositions by Mário Laginha, who provided the music to accompany the poem of Álvaro de Campos Ai Margarida, heard on one of Camane’s more recent recordings.
Fado singer Camané embodies emotion, tradition infused with a touch of boldness, and versatility as core elements of his artistic identity. With rare musical sensitivity, Camané continues to show the world that he is a unique voice in the art of fado. Camané’s repertoire is highlighted by enduring classics like Sei de um rio, Complicadíssima teia, A guerra das rosas, Ela tinha uma amiga, and Senhora do livramento, complemented by a wide array of other notable songs. Camané, rather than obsessing over the past or his achievements, always believes that the best is yet to come.
With a career spanning over three decades, Mário Laginha is usually associated with jazz. Be that as it may, he has built a much broader musical universe that encompasses Brazilian, indigenous, African, pop and rock elements, in addition to his grounding in classical music. Although Laginha has one solo album to his credit, Canções e Fugas, he has shared his art with many musicians and creators. First and foremost, among them is Maria João, with whom he has made over a dozen recordings.
