Thirty-six municipal bands are participating in this initiative, which extends until June 15th.
The Auditorio de Tenerife will host this Sunday (16 March) the beginning of a new edition of Primavera Musical cycle, an initiative by the Tenerife Wind Bands Federation in collaboration with the Island Council. This event will feature performances by 36 musical ensembles in the Chamber Hall until June 15th. The opening concert, starting at 11.30 a.m., will feature the Insular Band of the Tenerife Wind Bands Federation, comprising musicians from different municipal bands.
Maravillas del mundo antiguo (Wonders of the Ancient World) is the title of this Sunday’s concert, which will begin with Alex Poelman’s Symphony No. 1, known as ‘The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World’, a musical portrait in seven movements of historical buildings and works of art from around the world. The second part of the programme features two works that are monuments in their own right: La Alhambra iluminada op.22 by Valencian composer José Faus and Machu Picchu – City in the Sky by Japanese composer Satoshi Yagisawa.
The Insular Band has begun a new chapter in its history under the leadership of La Palma native Miguel Ángel Arrocha Rodríguez. Next Sunday’s concert will be the ensemble’s second performance under his direction since his appointment in August 2024.
Councillor for Cultural Affairs José Carlos Acha congratulated the wind bands federation Federación Tinerfeña de Bandas de Música ‘for its efforts to make this year’s programme a success. We are all proud to have bands from across the island perform at the Auditorio’. Acha pointed out that ‘this year’s programme is very special’, explaining that the Music in Spring concerts began in 2005 and adding that ‘the Auditorio de Tenerife has been the venue for these bands and their followers for the last 20 years. Furthermore, we learned earlier this week of the passing of Alejandro Poleo, who served as the federation’s president until 2022. It is our wish that this year’s programme acknowledges and honours his indispensable dedication’.
After this year’s first concert, 12 more events have been scheduled to take place with 36 of the federation’s bands. The first to appear on the stage of the Chamber Hall will be the wind bands of Arona, San Miguel and San Pedro (El Sauzal) on 23 March at 11.30 a.m.
