Martín Baeza-Rubio’s versatile musical career started as soloist trumpet, being guest performer in a huge number of orchestras, to then go on to carry out research in musicology. He has collaborated in many ensembles and has a firm commitment to contemporary creation, specifically Spanish. As conductor, he has led some sixty absolute premieres and is building up an excellent reputation. It is not a surprise he was willing to take charge of the absolute premiere of one of the best established Canaries composers, Dori Díaz Jerez. He is also presenting Symphony nº 5 by Prokófiev and the Five Last Lieder by Richard Strauss, which is perhaps the most celebrated group of orchestral songs. Composed at the end of his life, this fresco of deep beauty and wisdom needs the full, rich, though flexible, voice of a soprano. Jacqueline Wagner, an uprising vocalist, has the tools and sensitivity to turn this concert into an unforgettable event, after having reached the top at the Paris Opera and La Scala in Milan.
