This co-production by Tenerife Opera and the Maestranza Theatre in Seville can be seen this Saturday

This Saturday, the Tenerife Auditorium presents La bella Susona, by Alberto Carretero, a contemporary opera that can be seen on December 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Symphony Hall. Tickets are sold out for this second stop of this production, after the world premiere in March at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville.

La Bella Susona, with a score by Alberto Carretero and a libretto by Rafael Puerto, tells the story of a young Jewish girl from Seville in the 15th century, who betrayed her father, revealing to her lover, a Christian knight, the existence of a plot of which she was the ringleader. The members of the conspiratorial group were arrested and executed. Susona, repudiated by her people, converted to Christianity, but they, like her lover, also despised her. Dejected, Susona retired to a convent and ordered that, upon her death, her head be hung over the door of her house.

The stage direction and dramaturgy are by Carlos Wagner, and the reinstatement of the stage direction in Tenerife is by Raúl Vázquez. Alejandro Andújar, Albert Faura and Francesc Isern are responsible for the set design, lighting and video, respectively. The sound engineering is by Sylvain Cadars.

Nacho de Paz is in charge of the musical direction of this co-production of the Auditorio de Tenerife and the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville. The music is provided by the Tenerife Symphony and the choir, directed by Miguel Ángel Arqued, will be that of the Tenerife Opera-Intermezzo.

The main role of Susona is played by the American soprano Daisy Press, who will share the stage with the baritone Luis Cansino (Aben Susón), the tenor José Luis Sola (Guzmán), the countertenor Federico Florio (Pulgar) and the mezzo-soprano Marina Pardo (Sor Gregoria). All of them were at the world premiere in Seville. In Tenerife, the bass Javier Castañeda makes his debut in the role of Diego de Merlo.

Ópera de Tenerife is an initiative of the Cabildo Insular – through the Auditorio de Tenerife – which is sponsored by the Canarian Institute for Cultural Development of the Government of the Canary Islands and the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music (INAEM) of the Government of Spain.

For this function, the Cabildo has launched an Opera Shuttle, offering free transport with two TITSA buses, which will depart at 17:15 from the south (Adeje) and from the north (Buenavista), with the Tenerife Auditorium as their destination. Once the event is over, there will be a 15-minute gap until the buses start up again to make the route in the opposite direction.

To access this service, it is necessary to collect a ticket for the bus, which is purchased like a show, but, instead of choosing a fare, what is selected is the name of the stop where that person will join the journey. Places are limited and are available until Friday 6 at 12:00.
