Exhibition-concert to feature piano recital and photos that recreate characters of ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’
The Auditorio de Tenerife has scheduled for Saturday, 5 April at 7.30 p.m. ‘Reflejos de Macondo’ (Reflections of Macondo), an exhibition and concert that pays tribute to Gabriel García Márquez’s novel ‘Cien años de soledad’. Spanish pianist María José de Bustos will give a recital accompanied by images captured by Columbian photographer Oscar Perfer. The programme and the portraits are meant to reflect the characters of the famous novel of the Nobel laureate and journalist.
Another peculiar feature of this work is that the audience will be seated on the stage of the auditorium’s Symphony Hall, along with the pianist and the portraits. Afterwards, the public will be invited to engage in conversation with the artists.
Reflejos de Macondo is a show with limited seating and an artistic encounter born of the fusion of words, music and images. Its carefully prepared staging will allow the public to discover ‘the solitude of 100 years’ and its tremendous aesthetic, visual and musical potential.
Oscar Perfer’s deep, introspective dive into the novel of García Márquez explores its timeless characters through the lens of his artistic interpretation and peculiar style of framing portraits with his technique of pictorial illumination. Those viewing his works experience the sensation of being observed by the hypnotic gazes of the subjects portrayed, which, on this occasion, will surely draw them further into García Márquez’s imagined world of Macondo.
Perfer heightens the rich and dynamic narration with his dreamlike ideas, conceived within the universe of the magical realism of his portraits. This intimate and unconventional experience will immerse spectators visually and musically, allowing them to experience the recital of María José de Bustos and to discover the images that Perfer has created with his artistic interpretation of the novel’s characters.
Pianist María José de Bustos has prepared for her recital a selection of works from different periods and composers, all dedicated to the inhabitants of Macondo. The programme is to begin with Debussy’s Clair de Lune, which the creators of this work associate with Aureliano Segundo. Schubert’s Hungarian Melody is to follow, in reference to Mauricio Babilonia, and the performance is to continue with another 10 pairings of compositions and characters.
One Hundred Years of Solitude was written in Mexico City between 1965 and 1966 and is considered a masterpiece of Spanish and world literature. Surpassed in popularity only by Don Quixote, it is the second best-selling book in Spanish, with 30 million copies sold to date, and it has been published in 35 languages.
The tickets can be purchased at a single price of €15 and €5 for under 30s on the website www.auditoriodetenerife.com, at the auditorium’s box office, or by dialling the phone number 902 317 327 from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Check the special discounts for, among others, students, unemployed people and large families.
