The FIMC has the honour of once again hosting Jordi Savall, one of the most versatile musical personalities of his generation. For more than fifty years, he has made known to the world musical wonders that had been abandoned in the darkness of indifference and oblivion. Dedicated to research into ancient music, he reads and interprets these pieces’ scores with his viola da gamba or as a conductor. Among other musical ensembles, he is the co-founder of the Le Concert des Nations (1989) orchestral group, with whom he will appear at the 38th Festival to interpret "The Seven Last Words of Christ" by J. Haydn.
This is a piece commissioned to the Austrian composer by an eighteenth-century confraternity from Cadiz. Savall recovered this piece in its orchestral version and in the past decade proposed a staging with narrations that include texts by José Saramago – a personality for whom 2022 marks the 100th anniversary of his birth. At the 38th FIMC, these texts will be read by two great writes from the Canary Islands: Alexis Ravelo and Elsa López.
