Alexandre
Auditorio de Tenerife programmes Alexandre, a piece by Pol Pi.
“At the beginning, a voice: the recording of a tone, a breath, like the appearance of a radical alterity.
At the beginning, a language: a rhythm, a phrasing, a repetition, an evading meaning. From this voice emerges a series of questions about language. What can dance do with a voice: attempt to approach the world it conveys to the borders of meaning, or unfold a movement in its intensities, in its frictions, in order to reconstitute its own system of sensation and interpretation ?
After a process of questioning the physical, linguistic and anthropological issues raised by this recording dealing with a male rite of passage, Pol Pi created ALEXANDRE, thus making this name into the password for a possible transformation. As in his previous creation, ECCE (H)OMO, the starting material draws the coordinates of a new sensitive territory.
In ALEXANDRE, Pol Pi makes a knot, an interlacing in which is wrapped a reflection around the construction of sameness and difference. Between his body, his voice and his imaginary doubles is established a ritual navigating between near and far, fusion and cut, dream and reality, masculine and feminine.”
