26 Jun 19:00 h.
Opera/Ópera de Tenerife
 Auditorio de Tenerife (Sala Sinfónica)

As usual, Opera Tenerife closes the season with a zarzuela performance. On this occasion, it will offer a zarzuela anthology.

The eternal zarzuela

It is a great delight to design a programme about one of the most fascinating and characteristic exponents of Spanish lyric opera, the zarzuela. It allows us to draw a much deeper musical path than a simple combination of musical pieces; it also highlights the key factors of such a wonderful and unique musical genre.

This programme allows us to enjoy the lyrics and melody of zarzuela, with a variety of colours and styles that belong to zarzuela and Spanish music. Emblematic and famous songs such as 'De España vengo', 'Me llaman la primorosa' or the famous romance for tenor 'No puede ser', are just some of the melodies that have left a deep trace in our culture. Apart from highlighting these famous songs with our programme, we will hear other pieces such as 'Salida de Cecilia Valdés' by the Cuban composer Gonzalo Roig. It clearly shows how this special Spanish genre has crossed the borders to become international.

These beautiful scores speak of love, ideals, mischief and good humour, all of them linked to our Spanish personality and warmth. Likewise, we will hear fragments of well-known titles such as 'La del manojo de rosas', 'El barbero de Sevilla', 'Luisa Fernanda', 'Doña Francisquita', among others. They all were composed by great Spanish music masters like Amadeo Vives, Pablo Sorozábal or Federico Moreno Torroba. During this musical journey with wonderful instrumental examples, the orchestration and instrument mastery go beyond the voices. It's worth noting the wonderful Tenerife Symphony Orchestra (OST), which has reached the highest level in this genre and made landmark recordings of various zarzuela titles, including many of the ones we will hear during this Anthology. Four great voices of the current Spanish lyric scene will accompany us. The young voices of the renowned sopranos Marina Monzó, and Sofia Esparza, who share the stage with the warm and excellent voices of José Bros, tenor, and Javier Franco, baritone. Both male singers are also internationally renowned like other famous Spanish lyrical voices that are worldwide known.
