The Carnival of the Animals... also from the Canary Islands is a show for anyone who is sensitive to the music and words that evoke how unique the world around us is.

Camille Saint-Saëns presents us lions, hens and roosters, tortoises, elephants, kangaroos, the aquarium, characters with long ears (donkeys), the cuckoo, the aviary, pianists, fossils and the swan. The contrasts in the sonorous descriptions, packed with humour, transport us within our own life experiences and towards everything that lives in nature and the world of the imagination.

What Saint-Saëns did not imagine, or perhaps did, is that the show continues with a series of natural and imaginary animals from the Canary Islands: The Carnival of the Canarian Animals. In this regard, two composers from our islands: Celia Rivero and Sergio Rodríguez, will be responsible for providing music to a series of animals that will accompany us on our characteristic musical journey around the regional landscape. Thus, we will descriptively explore the experiences of our native dogs (Presa Canario mastiff and the Podenco warren hound), some of our most representative birds (canary, blue chaffinch, Bolle’s pigeon); we will dive into our local waters where we will come across the blue whale and the finback whale. Alongside the giant lizard of El Hierro we will crawl along the ground and scale the walls of our homes with the perenquén (Canarian gecko). Also, we will delve into the Jameos del Agua alongside the blind crabs of Lanzarote. All without forgetting parts of our mythology, such as guacanchas and the Ladon, a dragon with one hundred heads.

One of the aims of this educational and informative show is to awaken the responsibility that we have to look after the natural environment that we share.

As for the premiere, David Ballesteros, of the Ensemble Renonancias, explains that “our idea of creating music devoted to Canarian animals is a tribute to our natural environment, with the desire to awaken responsibility for looking after it. This music composed by two brilliant Canarian artists, Celia Rivero and Sergio Rodríguez, will have its world premiere at the Auditorium of Tenerife".
