The Auditorio de Tenerife presents the musical The Bodyguard.

After its triumphant period on the London West End, and the impressive reception for the tour around Spain, the musical that recreates the relationship between a musical diva and her bodyguard is returning to theatres all over the country. Frank Farmer, a former secret agent who has become a bodyguard, is hired by the superstar Rachel Marron to protect her from a harasser. The two expect to be in control of the situation. What they don't expect is to fall in love with one another.

This striking romantic thriller includes a long list of unforgettable classic songs, like Queen of the night, So emotional, I wanna dance with somebody, Saving all my love, Run to you, I have nothing, and the iconic I will always love you. The film received two Oscar Award nominations in 1993, both in the Best Song category for the songs I have nothing and Run to you. The soundtrack received four Grammy Award nominations and won three, including Album of the Year.

The musical is based on the acclaimed film written by Lawrence Kasdan (the scriptwriter behind films such as The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark) and starring Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2022.

The theatre version of the film released in 1992 which crowned Whitney Houston and beat box office records worldwide also recreates the iconic song I will always love you, as well as many other songs from the film´s original soundtrack, the bestselling of all time and Grammy Award winner for Album of the Year. Likewise, the musical also includes other great hits by the pop diva, such as Run to you, I have nothing, So emotional, One moment in time, Queen of the night or I wanna dance with somebody. With a libretto by Alexander Dinelaris, the show is directed by Federico Bellone, whose latest projects notably include the Italian version of Mary Poppins (Disney and Cameron Mackintosh) and Ghost The Musical, Dirty Dancing and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in Spain.
