38th International Music Festival of the Canary Islands Concert
The Philarmonie Luxembourg represents the cultural vitality of this country, located in the heart of Europe. With almost 90 years of history, this orchestra has been under public management for the last 25 years. It is made up of 98 musicians from a score of countries and is recognised for the elegance of its sound.
They are coming to the 38th FIMC under the direction of the Spanish conductor Gustavo Gimeno, whose recent debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker received rave reviews. In the Canary Islands, Gimeno will direct the contemporary piece entitled “Subito con Sforza,” by the South Korean composer Unsuk Chin; ‘Symphony in D minor’ by Franck; and the “Paganini Variations” of Rachmaninov, the latter alongside Italian pianist Beatrice Rana, one of the young, up-and-coming figures on the international scene.
