The Youth Orchestra of the Canary Islands (JOCAN) returns in all its splendour to celebrate the arrival of 2024 as a prelude to the 40^th Canary Islands International Music Festival. Conducted by Víctor Pablo Pérez, over 70 young musicians will be on stage to perform two great works from the symphony repertoire: Piano Concerto No. 2 by S. Rachmaninoff -alongside the pianist Nikolai Lugansky– and Symphony No. 5 by P.I. Tchaikovsky.

The JOCAN project was launched in 2016 by the Government of the Canary Islands as a means of training and practicing orchestral music for young musicians from the islands. The project consists of organizing Encuentros (Gatherings) three times a year, where members of the orchestra come together and prepare a diverse range of repertoire to be performed on tours. The Encuentros are led by a select group of teachers and maestros, and the musicians also have the opportunity to work with renowned international soloists.

This gathering will be the 20^th since the launch of JOCAN. They will perform concerts in Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura, from 1 to 3 January, after a week of training, studying together, rehearsals and preparations. At this 20^th Gathering, the Youth Orchestra of the Canary Islands has the collaboration of its counterparts in Andalusia and Galicia.
