CLASSICAL SYMPHONY
Prokofiev relives the 13th century in the 20th century, with a touch of irony, though. Saint-Säens wanted to dignified the cello as a solo instrument and he established a precedent with his declamatory use (just like Elgar later!) Shostakovich was only 19 years old when he wrote this piece, his last at the conservatoire and which also took him to the very top. No mean feat.
