Matthieu Saglio Quartet
As part of its jazz proposals, the Auditorio de Tenerife is offering a concert by Matthieu Saglio Quartet.
The success of the album El camino de los vientos (ACT, April 2020) met with critical international acclaim and netted eight million streams on Spotify. On this occasion, the France-born and Valencia-based cellist Matthieu Saglio (founder of groups such as NES, Jerez Texas, Diouke, etc.) presents Voices, his new album on the prestigious European label ACT. The recording features a series of great vocalists from around the world, along with the quartet's other members Christian Belhomme on keyboard and piano, Léo Ullmann on violin and David Gadea on percussion. The compositions bear the stamp of the composer and cellist, who habitually mixes jazz with classical, flamenco and world music and gives each musician space to freely express themselves.
Saglio comments, ‘My idea was to make this recording a tribute to voices around the world: men, women, people of all ages and singing in all languages. I wanted to use the voice as the essence of humanity: something that is special to each person and, at the same time, brings us all together and unites us’. He explains that the recording was made possible by ‘the outstanding musicians in my quartet; their creativity and their generosity; and the cello serving as the common thread throughout this adventure’. He goes on to say, ‘The compositions were tailor-made after a lengthy reflection on each guest artist. I spent time imagining their worlds coming together with mine, and I couldn't be happier with the results, because all that preparation has paid off.’
Matthieu Saglio feels ‘very grateful for the beautiful energy around me and the enthusiasm it gives me to continue searching for beauty, emotion and human communication.’ He concludes by expressing his desire that ‘Voices will lift spirits, making listeners sing, dance and even cry’.
