Liszt’s Second piano concerto offers a brilliant metamorphosis by means of the composer’s devilish technical virtuoso skills in harmony with his concept of the symphonic poem, which is here represented by the Preludes: unknown songs, cruel storms, the beat of happiness… these are Liszt’s words though they could very well describe Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony and its wonderful music, set on reaching our hearts.
