La tabernera del puerto (Sorozábal)
Pablo Sorazábal, one of the most renowned zarzuela composers in the 20th century, achieved one of his greatest successes with this ‘sailor romance’ on an original text by Federico Romero and Guillermo Fernández Shaw. It was premiered in 1936 at Teatro Tívoli in Barcelona.
The piece, which takes place in a very poor fishing village ruled by drug trafficking, has a colourful score that brings together impressionist touches and popular style, including the most famous romanza in the repertoire, ‘No puede ser’.
