Lady Anne
Auditorio de Tenerife is staging Lady Anne in La Salita, a work based on Shakespeare’s Richard III. Inma Nieto directed the play, performed it herself, and starred in it with Elisabet Gelabert.
After the performance on Saturday 22st there will be a colloquium with the company, moderated by Idaira Santana.
An actress and her director prepare for a day of rehearsals. In a scene written by Shakespeare in which, with her husband's body still present, Lady Anne is dragged into a spiral of seduction by Richard where he holds all the weapons apart from one: the power of belief in the other. The show mixes the world of rehearsing and what has been rehearsed, to talk about actresses and directors, men and women, realities and fiction.

"Lady Anne" is a journey into the past, a reflection on revenge, power, and the role of women in theatre.
An actress arrives late for a rehearsal of Shakespeare’s Richard III. Anne Neville enjoys a scene in the work, and by enjoy, I mean… A masterfully written scene.
I imagine the actresses preparing for the role. Oh sorry...at that time there were no actresses, the female roles were played by young men. The ban on women appearing on stage was simply a reflection on the role of women in Elizabethan society. Nor were they allowed to attend university or go into politics and their main duty was to get married, bear children and obey their husbands.
Of course, we are talking about England...I would invite people to take a look at the history of Spain...
That is the past...I know...we have of course made a lot of progress, but there is still a long way to go...
And now, I have changed the pieces, I put Anne and the actress playing her in the middle of the chessboard...I give them the chance to turn the action around.”

“Creative women, role model women”.
Bea López for Teatro Madrid.
“Shakespeare’s Lady Anne confronts the stage directors.”
Ruth Díaz for El Mundo.
“The performance of the two actresses is sublime, this alone would make it worthwhile going to see the show, but undoubtedly everything else does too.”
Nieves Zaballos for Teatro Madrid.
“It is a complex and fascinating scene, disturbing and unnerving, that Gelabert experiences from within, visceral and moving, (...).”
Luis de Luis Otero for Prensa Social.
“A mighty theatrical exercise.” “It is impossible to reveal anything that happens in this Lady Anne which I heartily recommend.”
Horacio Otheguy Riveira of Culturamás.
“Shows like this once again prove that all you need is a good text (and this is one), good direction (this first foray by Inma Nieto is quite remarkable), and two magnificent actresses who dazzle the audience from the very moment they step onto the stage.”
José-Miguel Vila for Diario Crítico.
“The staging is intelligent and minimalist.” “The lighting by Pedro Yagüe and the sound design by Javier Almela (…) are outstanding in a work that highlights subtlety. This care is also on display in the costumes by Nuria Martínez.”
Diana Rivera Miguel for EnPlatea.
