Auditorio de Tenerife welcomes the regional phase of the 19th Intercentros Melómano
In the competition, they will choose the musician to represent the Canaries at the national final on 5 December in Alicante
Auditorio de Tenerife, under the Cabildo de Tenerife’s Department of Culture run by councillor Enrique Arriaga, welcomes the regional phase of the 19th Intercentros Melómano in the Professional Degree category on Saturday, 21st November at 4:00 pm. The winner will represent the Canary Islands at the national competition, to be held on 5 December in Alicante.Six students of the professional conservatoires of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria specialising in different instruments: guitar, oboe, saxophone and clarinet, are taking part in the competition. They are free to choose what to play and their performance will be 15 minutes long at most. After playing, the jury will discuss the performances to then announce who will represent the Canaries in this contest.
Seventeen regional musicians will compete at the final in Alicante for the prize: a tour across Spain including solo recitals and concerts with a symphony orchestra, like the one given by Orquesta Filarmonía Granada or the Festival de Música de Segovia-MUSEG.The Intercentros Melómano is an initiative of the Fundación Orfeo that was set up in 2002 with the aim of encouraging the active participation of conservatoire students in professional competitions. The idea is to give musicians a practical experience where they face an audience and a jury that will judge their interpretation, not just their technical skills.
Admission is free and audience members are kindly asked to come early enough to enter the theatre gradually and give their personal details to meet the guidelines of the health authorities. Coming to the competition implies accepting the measures implemented at this Cabildo cultural centre to tackle COVID-19, such as wearing a facemask or coming only with people you live with. The full measures and the AENOR-certified contingency plan are available on Auditorio’s website. Both the GastroMag and the car park are open to the public.
