Over the weekend they shared the shows they had prepared and received diplomas for their participation

The Auditorio de Tenerife organised two days to mark the end of the year for the Theatre Schools of Tenerife. Last weekend, the programme of the Island Council brought together one hundred children aged between 7 and 14 from 10 different groups on the island.

The schools that participated in this event belong to the municipalities of Candelaria, El Rosario, El Sauzal, Guía de Isora, La Laguna, La Orotava, and Tegueste. The teachers of the Theatre Schools, Miguel Ángel Batista, Francisco Gómez and Sigrid Ojel, were organising and assisting the students and their families during these days.

The island minister for Culture, José Carlos Acha, attended the two days. The councillors for the Culture of El Sauzal (Eusebio Castillo), El Rosario (Jennifer Torres), Candelaria (Manuel González), and Tegueste (Candelaria García), as well as the councillors for the Heritage of La Orotava (Delia Escobar), were also in attendance.

José Carlos Acha assessed this initiative, stating that "these events are very positive for the students, they see the fruits of their work; for their families, who share the result of this activity with their children, and also for the Auditorium, which attracts a new audience and renews its energy to continue highly enriching like this one".

"At the Island Council, we are very clear about the commitment to art as a social tool, and these theatre schools reflect that, as professionals from the sector get involved in enriching the leisure time of many people from all over the island", outlined the island minister.

In the Castillo Hall of the Auditorio de Tenerife, the youths staged the works of theatre they had spent all year preparing with their teachers. Not only do they receive theatre training, but they also learn to take part in a stage project that ends up premiering with their families in the audience. Teamwork, memorisation, bodily expression, voice, and concentration are some of the skills strengthened these days.

The schools are divided according to age group, with those in groups A (from 7 to 11 years) and B (from 12 to 14 years) first to celebrate the end of their year. Students from groups C (from 15 to 17 years) and D (over 18 years) will have their closing event in June.

The Theatre Schools of Tenerife (Escuelas de Teatro - ETT), a programme of the Educational and Social Area of the Auditorio de Tenerife, are developed, in collaboration with the municipalities of the island, during the school year in various educational and cultural centres and offer theatrical training to children, youth and adults.

One of the main aims of these Theatre Schools is to foster a quality artistic hobby and to contribute to the cultural development of the social environment. All teachers who give classes in the different parts of the island for this programme have a degree in performing arts from the School of Performing Arts of the Canary Islands (Escuela de Actores de Canarias). The process to enrol for next year will be announced through the Educational and Social section on the Auditorium's website: www.auditoriodetenerife.com.
