The performance `La stanza: tu amor fue mi banderaˊ, features various performers, visuals and electronic music.

La Salita has scheduled a sample of the artistic residency of Vivien Déniz titled La stanza: tu amor fue mi bandera (La Stanza: Your Love Was My Flag) for this Saturday (14th November) at 7:30 p.m. The artist has been working on the installations of the Auditorio de Tenerife for this performance since 2 December. The Laboratory of Live Arts and Citizenship of the Canary Islands, better known by its Spanish acronym “LAV-C”, has collaborated in her residency. Entry is free until the total capacity is reached.

Saturday’s performance is a reinterpretation of the Spanish military march El novio de la muerte, (Death’s Bridegroom), envisioned here as a rebellious act of gay protest, according to Déniz. When the doors of La Salita open, spectators shall see the stage and seating enveloped in blackness. In this dark and dense context, the music by the Tenerife-based DJ SAM.AM shall heighten tension and create an introspective mood as the spectators take their seats.

Following this, one of the auditorium's walls shall serve as a projection screen for visual effects created by Ismael Cabrera, exploring the loss of image rights and the concept of kidnapping. This shall lead into the beginning of the performance, in which the human body appears wrapped in black, representing the dissident who bears the burden of oppression and violence inflicted on the down-and-outs throughout history; on those labelled as Reds, Déniz explains. This reinterpretation transforms the sample into a ritual of mourning and resistance, with a conclusion offered on one’s sexuality.

Déniz is the artistic director and one of the performers, along with Marcelo Figueira, Erduing González, Aythami Vera and Guillermo Vera. The music is credited to Shamir Adberraman (SAM.AM) and Jela, and the wardrobe is to Marcelo Figueira. The visuals projected during the performance were created by Ismael Cabrera, and the author of the promotional photography is Thais Rivero.

The artist Vivien Déniz holds a degree in fine arts and specialises in performances, installations and trans-disciplinarity. As a queer activist for trans rights, she speaks at conferences on gender issues and dissident identities and is the author of the lecture Coloquio de una Marika (Colloquy of a Poofter) (based on a reflection on queer theory and intersectionality) and cofounder of the project Haus of Otherness.

As part of the “Voice and Body” artistic residencies organised by the Auditorio de Tenerife for La Salita, this marks the beginning of a new collaboration with the Laboratory of Live Arts and Citizenship of the Canary Islands LAV-C. Under this alliance, the project led by cultural director Beatriz Bello and artist Darío Bardam has scheduled three residencies of young and performance-orientated Canarian creators, the first of which corresponds to the work of Vivien Déniz.

La Salita's programme continues on 20, 21 and 22 December at 7.30 p.m. with the performance of María Karéi by Romeu Costa. The tickets can be purchased at a single price of €8 on www.auditoriodetenerife.com, at the auditorium's box office, or by dialling the phone number 902 317 327, from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
