The FAM 2021 edition (Art of Movement Festival) will take place from the 3rd to the 6th of June with 24 shows in five different venues: Auditorio de Tenerife, Espacio La Granja, Paraninfo de la ULL, Teatro Guimerá and the scenic venue Centro de Arte La Recova.
The FAM 2021 edition (Arts of Movement Festival) presents Ruffle, a choreography by Carlos Pons Guerra inspired by cockfighting and Greco-Latin wrestling. This bittersweet duo explores emotional aggression in homosexual relationships and the moments when our bedrooms become battle arenas. Ruffle was choreographed in 2015 for Rambert, the UK's national dance company, and has toured internationally.
"A curious fact about cockfighting is that a fight only ends when one of the cocks is mortally wounded. This is very similar to the gladiator combats of Ancient Rome. One would enter the arena to fight to the death, knowing that one of the warriors would eventually die (morituri te salutant). This struck me as morbidly poetic, symbolic of our love affairs. These notions of struggle are what inspired Ruffle: when our dormitories become cockpits, but only one of us makes it out alive.”
