The gospel legend tour
The Mississippi Mass Choir, the world-renowned American gospel group, will present The Gospel Legend Tour at Christmas in 2024. On repeated occasions, this ensemble has been chosen for the most important awards (Grammy, Stellar, Dove, Soul Train). After many years of touring America, Europe and Asia, the world is now its stage. It was the first gospel choir to perform at the Acropolis of Athens in 1995. The group sang at the Vatican in 1997 and performed in Tenerife at Christmas in 2010 with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife before an audience of 20,000.
Its recording label is Malaco Records, known in the American industry as ‘the last soul company’, whose catalogue includes all the recordings of the gospel artists under the legendary Savoy Records label, from Shirley Caesar to James Cleveland. The label's artists have consistently topped Billboard gospel charts, with hits by Walter Hawkins, the creator of Oh Happy Day, Dorothy Norwood and the Mississippi Mass Choir.
The Mississippi Mass Choir was founded in 1988 by Frank Williams, who was one of the acclaimed Jackson Southernaires and the executive director of the gospel division of Malaco Records. They made their first recording on 28 October of that year at the Jackson Municipal Auditorium. In the spring of 1989, just five weeks after its release, the record topped the Billboard gospel chart.
