Casandra o el elogio del fracaso

Ópera en minúscula (small-format opera)  presents Cassandra or the Praise of Failure at the Espacio La Granja.

Riding the line between contemporary chamber opera and theatre, Cassandra or the Praise of Failure delves into the life and inner world of the mythical character Cassandra, known for her gift of prophecy and the curse placed on her by Apollo that caused her predictions to be rejected by the public. María Herrero, the artistic and musical director of the theatrical company Proyecto Barroco, composed the music of this work and collaborated in the writing of the text with Íñigo Guardamino, in addition to her role as director of this opera. The work combines original compositions for four voices, electronic devices such as loopers and classic pieces for voice, guitar, piano and viola da gamba. The result is a rich and moving sonic landscape that accompanies the odyssey of a Cassandra who is trapped in the underworld, where she regains her clairvoyance and seeks to return to the world of the living to warn of the coming of a catastrophe. She is assisted in her efforts by a veteran muse and a young student. The work invites spectators to reflect on the past and the future, proposing several modern-day Cassandras and suggesting the importance of the societal credibility that might allow their messages to be heard.
