Auditorio de Tenerife welcomes this concert by Gregory Porter at the Canary Islands International Jazz & Más Festival

Over the last decade, Gregory Porter has brought contemporary jazz to all audiences. He has received several prizes and distinctions, including two Grammy Awards for Best Jazz Vocal Album. He regularly participates in some prime time television programmes, such as those presented by Graham Norton, Jools Holland and Strictly Come Dancing, and he was the first celebrity to sing on CBeebies Bedtime Stories.

In 2019, Porter launched and presented his own podcast, 'The Hang', which has amassed two successful series to date and hosted a series of famous guests. At the start of this year, Porter launched 'The PorterHouse with Gregory Porter' Presented by Citi’, a six-episode cooking series where the singer shares recipes inspired by his local community, culinary experiences on tour and the culinary traditions of his own family.

Porter, an artist with a long trajectory, has performed for the Queen of England on several occasions, singing Amazing Grace at the Royal Albert Hall, performing at the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of Victory Day and on the iconic Pyramid stage at Glastonbury. He is a global phenomenon and always has the “sold out” sign up around the world. This year, after a long break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Gregory Porter is returning with a world tour that will bring him to the best stages in Europe and the planet’s most prestigious festivals.

And he does so after releasing Still Rising, an exquisite selection of musical delight. The first disc includes five completely new songs, two new arrangements and nine of Porter’s most beloved songs. The second disc includes impressive covers and duets, with songs with Paloma Faith, Moby, Jamie Cullum, Jeff Goldblum, Ella Fitzgerald and many more. The new song and the first single on the album was 'Dry Bones', written and produced by Troy Miller (Diana Ross, Rag'n'Bone Man and Emeli Sandé).

Of the collection, Porter says: “This is my music thus far, but it isn’t a Greatest Hits album”. They normally come at the end of someone’s career, and I still feel young, I have lots more to say. There is always something in the career of an artist that people don’t know; I wanted to attract their attention. The title of the album is an allusion to my last record, All Rise, because here I am repeating something that is clear in my music and in the new songs that are here: optimism about life and love. It is an unfinished story for me, both in terms of music and personality. And I am still learning to do it. I am still rising”.

The 31st Canary Islands’ International Jazz & Más Festival takes place between 1 and 24 July 2022 with a programme that will come to the eight islands and involve some of the main stars in the genre, notably Gregory Porter, winner of two Grammy Awards; Marcus Miller, who adds another two Grammy Awards; and the SFJAZZ Collective project: New Works Reflecting the Moment. Three benchmarks in the genre will be joined by almost thirty more artists, also including the trumpet player Avishai Cohen Big Vicious, Nate Smith + Kinfolk 100%, Ben Wendel Quartet, Immanuel Wilkins, Samantha Fish, Kadri Voorand in Duo with Mihkel Mälgand, Septeto Santiaguero, Pepe Rivero & Ángela Cervantes ‘Olas y Arenas’, Trio Corrente, Philip Lassiter and Yusan.

Access is only allowed to those over five years of age.
