Toccata nocturna
As part of its organ concert cycle and in collaboration with the San Miguel Arcángel Royal Canarian Academy of Fine Arts (RACBA), the Auditorio de Tenerife offers a matinee with the Barcelona-born organist Aarón Ribas Zorrilla.
Toccata Nocturna
Over recent years, I have sought ways to show the range of the organ. For me, this instrument has the same capacity to induce meditation and momentum.
And I have found the night to be the best setting for all of this to happen: space for introspection but also for setting off dazzling fireworks.
In this ambitious programme, the intimacy of the nocturnes contrasts with the force of the toccatas. Presented as such, the works that comprise the programme are exalted by the contrast between them.
The power and depth of the toccatas by Bach, Heiller and Migó are highlighted alongside the delicate lines of the nocturnes by Chopin and the Clair de Lune by Debussy.
This dialogue between some of the greatest composers is the result of a long exploratory process that has led me to play in important European settings over recent years.
