DESTINY
Daniel Raiskin takes up the baton with the OST to offer an extraordinarily popular and most attractive programme with two great Romantic symphony composers, German Beethoven and Russian Tchaikovsky. Symphony nº 5 by the Bonn composer was written throughout three years and premiered with “The Pastoral” in 1808. Its vigour and pathos had a great impact on a large part of the audience. Years after Beethoven’s death, his secretary, Schindler, said that according to the composer, the famous initial motif was Destiny knocking on the door. Fate as a terrible force that prevents reaching happiness is also linked to the initial fanfare in Tchaikovsky’s Symphony nº 4 from 1878. The author wrote about it that it was both programmatic music and a reflection on Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.
