Electra
Auditorio de Tenerife is staging Sophocles' Electra in La Salita, directed by Fernanda Orazi.
Theatre thrives on the very things that make life unbearable and from which we must escape as soon as possible. It acts like a hand that holds a flame simply to observe it, affirming, pursuing, and recreating those elements. Theatre consumes, nurtures, and reproduces what we dismiss as impossible to enact in "real life."
Electra embodies the journey of a persistent flame that challenges both her people and the performance itself to keep the flame alive and to raise the stakes of theatre to their utmost limits. We have embraced this version of Electra and the adventure of engaging with a Greek tragedy that represents something that seems unperformable for us as dramatic beings. By committing to this "Yes," we have arrived to bring our promise into the theatrical arena, where, just like in tragedy, not everything is within our control.

«I like to think it is more of a journey towards the Greek and Latin classics or a process of letting it come to us rather than a 'return'. Returning means we were already there, so we already know it, but that isn't the case. This material revealed itself to us in rehearsals as something entirely new. We had to set the scene to let it speak to us, listen to it, and allow it to do something and act on us. This relationship gifted us a different creative experience that bears no similarity to others. Perhaps what makes a classic a classic is the ability to offer an experience that is always fresh and other to the extent that we don't interact with it as something we already know. It doesn't matter which classic we are talking about. What does matter is if we intend to conquer it with our prejudices or to get to know it».

«Orazi takes a risk, and it turns out well for him».
Marta García Miranda for El Confidencial.
«Going on a journey to the foundations of theatre, to the bedrock, to the earliest texts and searching for what is there that relates to the possibility of saying and embodying».
Pablo Caruana for elDiario.es.
«Who says how a Greek tragedy should be produced?" Fernanda Orazi stages the tragedy genre itself».
Raquel Vidales for El País.
«Orazi creates an immersive and intimate Electra that dismisses solemnity without succumbing to parody and which, looking for a way to tell the story from the present through a connection with contemporary communication conventions, finds humour but doesn't turn its back on the great tragedy it recounts».
Miguel Ayanz for volodia.es.
«The present, now, here are the boundaries that set the perimeter where Sophocles' legendary Electra takes place, comes to life, and becomes theatre, courtesy of Fernanda Orazi and her imagination».
Luis de Luis Otero for Prensa Social.
«A very unique show that roots itself in unexpected humour that will send chills down your spine».
Amanda H.C. for Proyecto Duas.
