Classical Heroes
This programme focuses entirely on Viennese Classicism and is conducted by Antonio Méndez, who is again with us this season. The Overture «Leonore» nº 1 (1807) is one of the several orchestral introductions Beethoven wrote for his opera Fidelio and accompanies Symphony nº 3, “Eroica” (1805), two eminently heroic subjects, very much in the spirit of the troubled times of revolutions and Napoleonic Wars. Dated earlier and in more pleasant and happier times, the Cello Concerto nº 1 by J. Haydn, is a piece that gained gradual acknowledgment which was probably composed at and for the Princely Court of Esterházy. The young Madrid cellist Pablo Ferrández will be playing solo. He has a distinguished career with both national and European orchestras and has also received awards at many first-rate competitions in Switzerland, Finland, Germany or Austria.
Concert included in the Season Package and Package 9.
