Festival Tensamba
The Auditorio de Tenerife hosts a concert of the XXI Festival Tensamba with Brazilian guitarist and composer Yamandu Costa.
Seven-string genius Yamandu Costa is considered one of the world's most outstanding guitarists. As part of the Tensamba Festival, he will perform at the Auditorio de Tenerife with all his magic and creativity in one of his favourite places worldwide: the Canary Islands.
He has been appointed Ibero-American Cultural Ambassador and is one of the world's living wonders. His virtuosity, talent and culture make him a truly unique and appealing artist. His music is so complete and creative that it reaches beyond the confines of the Americas, taking listeners to astounding, exotic soundscapes. With over 50 recordings to his credit, this Brazilian artist is among the most prolific musicians of his generation. Since 2001, he has performed on a lengthy worldwide tour that has taken him to the best theatres and festivals around the globe. His commitment to music and the guitar has resulted in a successful series of video programmes available online titled Historias do Violão (Guitar Histories) that show his travels to international destinations where he comes face to face with the history of the instrument in each location.
In 2021, he and luthier Vicente Carrillo joined forces to create his models of seven-string guitar. Throughout his long career, he has shared stages, recording sessions and tours with masters of music around the globe, such as Bobby McFerrin, Gilberto Gil, Melody Gardot, Baden Powell, Dominguinhos, Richard Galliano, Marisa Montes, Silvia Perez Cruz... In recent years, the career of this guitar genius has been acknowledged with awards such as the 2021 Latin Grammy for Best Instrumental Album with Toquinho and the 2023 Brazilian Music Awards for Best Instrumental Album and Best Soloist.
