MEMORIES
On this occasion, Víctor Pablo Pérez presents an evening of contrasts, starting off with five songs for soprano and orchestra by the late composer from La Palma Luis Cobiella, and orchestrated by our former conductor and Conservatory teacher Armando Alfonso. The central theme is Symphony nº 4 by Austro-Moravian Gustav Mahler. This piece, which in a sense means a turning point regarding his previous symphony production, is characterised by a narrower scope in terms of length, number of movements, instrumentation, number of soloists and the absence of a choir. Despite the bad reception it had when premiered in Munich, the work, which centres around the idea of childhood, is nowadays considered to be one of the most balanced and complete of his colossal production in this genre.
