The contemporary dance company resident at Auditorio de Tenerife, Lava, is giving its first international performance in Bremen, Germany on Wednesday, the 23^rd. The group will dance at the Schwankhalle Theatre at 8:00 pm their first two pieces, Bending the Walls and Beyond, at the opening of the Festival Baila España 2019, organised by the city’s Instituto Cervantes.

The dancers are travelling to the German city with their assistant director Dácil González, who was recently awarded the Premio Nacional de Danza 2019 in the Performance category “because she has consistently and soundly delivered a seamless link between technique, emotion and communicative ability in her performances for more than 20 years”.

Bending the Walls is a production by Korzo Theater and the Nederlands Dans Theater, directed by the Spanish choreographer Fernando Hernando Magadan, artistic director at NDT2. It is an exploration on the world of restrictions and limitations in the search for happiness, freedom and understanding: the physical and psychological limits within the self and the surrounding world. It is a metaphor about the psychological, physical and emotional forces human beings can approach in order to reach beyond palpable reality, overcoming sorrow to escape into the world of the imagination.

On the other hand, Beyond, by the company La Intrusa, winner of Premio Nacional de Danza 2015, a creation by Virginia García and Damián Muñoz. The piece deals with the experience of searching through the emotional landscapes of memory, presenting a scenario full of uncertainties, which forces us to create or reflect on our own life and on the landscape that either consciously or unconsciously is shaped.

Lava’s calendar continues on 22 November at Teatro del Museo Universidad de Navarra with the same double bill, Bending the Walls and Beyond; on 1 December, they will be at Auditorio de Tenerife with two new creations by two choreographers, Hush, by Israeli Roy Assaf, and Yalacha, by Korean Dong Kyu Kim, within the Festival de Artes Escénicas Telón Tenerife; on 4 and 5 December both pieces will be premiered in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Lava is the artistic creation department of Tenerife Danza, under the Cabildo’s Instituto de Artes Escénicas. The company was set up in 2018 as resident at Auditorio de Tenerife with the aim of producing a new repertoire by creators of international scope and Tenerife dancer Daniel Abreu (Premio Nacional de Danza 2014) as artistic director.

The six dancers have a strong stage presence, are technically proficient and versatile to bring creations to life that share contemporary dance language plus other codes of the current artistic discourse. Physicality, poetry and commitment.

The company has a high-quality exclusive, original repertoire that is impeccably performed. It has already attracted a wide audience and is creating new ones through the experience of dance and its context.

Las voces de los bajos italiano Matteo Andrea Mollica y georgiano Givi Gigineishvili subirán a escena el rol del doctor Dulcamara en la óperaL’elisir d’amore, que será representada esta semana -de jueves a domingo- en el Auditorio de Tenerife. Dulcamara es el embaucador que vende una poción de amor a Nemorino para conseguir el amor de Adina, cuando en realidad tal poción es simplemente vino. Mollica y Gigineishvili, integrantes de Opera (e)Studio, participan en esta coproducción de Ópera de Tenerife, el Teatro Comunale di Bologna y el Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre, que este año cuenta con financiación del programa Europa Creativa de la Comisión Europea.

El georgiano comienza su carrera de canto a los 15 años en los centros educativos de música de Batumi, su ciudad natal, y posteriormente en el Youth Music Theatre y en el Conservatorio Estatal de Tbilisi V. Sarajishvili, siendo actualmente artista residente en el Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre, escenario en el que ya participó hace dos años en L’elisir d’amore. “Me encanta este título, pero sobre todo es muy interesante trabajar el personaje de Dulcamara”.

Mollica, que interpretará a Dulcamara en las funciones del viernes y domingo, comenzó sus estudios de canto en la Università di Torino y en el Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi de la misma ciudad. Es su primera vez en la isla, pero sí tiene referencias de las producciones de Ópera de Tenerife y de su academia de alta especialización para artistas, Opera (e)Studio, por medio de sus profesores y colegas de profesión. “Pienso que es una gran oportunidad para los jóvenes artistas”, afirma el italiano ante su participación en la séptima edición de Opera (e)Studio y resalta, sobre todo, el programa formativo de “muy alto nivel” dividido en un mes de formación general y, por otro lado, un mes de trabajo de producción real.

Respecto al rol de Dulcamara, el italiano lo representa por primera vez, siendo su máxima preocupación que el personaje “caiga en lo ridículo”, mientras que el georgiano explica que su rol en las funciones del jueves y sábado “requiere de mucha energía: habla mucho, el texto es muy difícil y rápido”. Resalta que el cantante “necesita una buena preparación para interpretar este papel. Por lo tanto, también necesita un buen juego en el escenario y una gran energía para mostrar todos los detalles”.

En cuanto a proyectos futuros ambos cantantes están centrados ahora mismo en aprovechar al máximo toda su experiencia en Opera (e)Studio y en L’elisir d’amore, pero quieren seguir evolucionando en otros personajes. Givi Gigineishvili reconoce que “cada personaje es interesante para mí… pero me gustaría llevar a escena el rol de Felipe II en la ópera Don Carlo de Verdi”. Matteo Andrea Mollica es más contundente en su respuesta: “Mi papel favorito, de mi título favorito, de mi compositor favorito: Ezio en Attila de Verdi”.

L’elisir d’amore constituye el comienzo de la temporada 2019-2020 con la dirección musical de Antonio Méndez, director principal de la Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife. Esta nueva producción de Ópera de Tenerife, que se realiza junto al Teatro Comunale di Bologna y el Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre, está auspiciada por la Comisión Europea dentro del programa Europa Creativa y supone el debut en Europa del director de escena Pablo Maritano, quien nos traslada a la edad dorada del celuloide de Hollywood. Todo ello aderezado con la escenografía de Serena Rocco, el vestuario de Lorena Marin y el diseño de luces de Virginio Levrio.

Las sopranos Leonora Tess y Sofía Esparza se encuentran por primera vez en Tenerife y lo hacen para afrontar el rol de Giannetta, la amiga de Adina en  L’elisir d’amore. Una de las óperas cómicas más conocidas y representadas de Gaetano Donizetti será la encargada de abrir la temporada lírica 2019-2020 de Ópera de Tenerife con las funciones que comenzarán el jueves de la próxima semana y se prolongarán hasta el domingo. Ambas cantantes interpretarán el rol en días alternos. Esparza estará en las funciones del jueves y sábado, mientras que Tess lo hará el viernes y el domingo.

Sofía Esparza, que comenzó a estudiar canto a los siete años, es una soprano española que realiza los estudios de canto en el Conservatorio Superior de Música de Navarra y en la Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya. La cantante, que visita por primera vez la isla, tiene “buenísimas” referencias de Ópera de Tenerife y de la academia de alta especialización para artistas Opera (e)Studio por medio de “cantantes que habían formado parte del programa en ediciones anteriores”.  La soprano responde que decidió presentarse a las audiciones para L’elisir d’amore, título que representa por primera vez, por “la gran oportunidad de formación profesional para cantantes” que supone el programa y por el “importante impulso laboral para mi carrera”.

Leonora Tess es italiana y comienza a formarse en canto a los 19 años de edad después de estudiar piano en el Conservatorio di Musica Giuseppe Verdi de Milán. La cantante, al igual que la soprano española, nunca había estado en la isla pero después de su experiencia espera regresar pronto, ya que según afirma “estoy enamorada de Tenerife”. Respecto a Opera (e)Studio, programa que conoce de ante mano, nos revela que “es una buena oportunidad para crecer como artista” y afirma que para una cantante L’elisir d’amore es la obra perfecta para “conectar con los sentimientos del público”. La italiana, a diferencia de su compañera, no es la primera vez que se enfrenta a este personaje, lo hizo en Milán y explica que la dificultad del rol que interpreta radica en “dar vida a un personaje que sea capaz de llamar la atención del público”.

En cuanto a proyectos futuros, Sofía Esparza prefiere aprovechar el impulso de esta oportunidad y continuar su carrera “dando los pasos adecuados” y con su formación como cantante y artista. Eso sí, sueña con interpretar los roles de Norina en Don Pasquale, Susanna en Le nozze di Figaro o Micaela en Carmen. Asimismo, Leonora Tess tiene como objetivo principal seguir creciendo como artista y concluye que espera que “a partir de ahora mi camino crezca más”, después de la experiencia que está viviendo en Tenerife. Al igual que su compañera de reparto, espera poder subir a escena algún día como Musetta en La bohème, Despina en Così fan tutte o Marie en La fille du régiment.

Estas dos jóvenes sopranos, junto a otros ocho cantantes más, llegaron a la isla para formar parte de la séptima edición de Opera (e)Studio, la academia de perfeccionamiento artístico integral para artistas. Esta formación, que dirige Giulio Zappa, está distribuida en diferentes clases magistrales con profesionales de primer nivel internacional y continúa con los ensayos habituales de una producción de ópera, fase en la que se encuentran actualmente. El programa culmina con la representación de L’elisir d’amore del 24 al 27 de octubre.

On Sunday, the 20th at 9:00 pm Auditorio de Tenerife’s  Sala de Cámara is hosting four shows - Trial, Bubble, Exit and Young Blood - under the Extensión Tenerife de Masdanza, the Canary Islands International Contemporary Dance Festival.

Coming from Vietnam and the Low Countries, Trial is a 10-minute duet by choreographer Tu Hoang. In this duo, complexity and synchrony seem inseparable as the two men move together in harmony. The fast impulses and the detailed movements of the hands follow one another swiftly in this crystalline presentation. They seem to agree homogeneously and peacefully. However, small tense gestures and actions suggest underlying friction.

Bubble takes shape in Israel and South Korea. It is a 15-minute piece by Jinhwan Seok performed by Lea Bessoudo, Tristan Carter, Jinhwan Seok with music by Bob Dylan that ponders on a lost bubble that they all miss, reminding us of “our indecision, our strange orbit and the gravity that brought us together and pushed us towards the Earth to be more humane”.

Mengbo Li and Xingxing Gong lead Exit, a piece that runs for 11 minutes created by Gong. It is part of the concept of soul, the starting point for the Chinese creator’s work: “Only a free soul is capable of transforming the environment. The body that loses its free will is the rebellion of the body against the soul and the uncontrollable nature of the soul against the body. When the body cannot be controlled, it is the soul the one that chooses to leave the body. That moment is the true meaning of death”.

The programme closes with a Catalonian 13-minute piece, Young Blood, created by Arnau Pérez de la Fuente, who leads the group that includes Maddi Ruiz de Loizaga and Adrián Manzano Borrego. This show is about a generation of young people who are full of energy, creativity and are involved in creating new paths that they cannot follow because of the spirit of society.

The Extensión Tenerife will also perform at Teatro Victoria, where they are putting on a selection of solo pieces on Sunday at 7:00 pm and Monday the 21^st at 9:00 pm.

The Cabildo de Tenerife presents the opera L’elisir d’amore, by Donizetti, to be performed at Sala Sinfónica of Auditorio de Tenerife from 24 to 27 October. It is a coproduction between Ópera de Tenerife, Teatro Comunale di Bologna and Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre, and this year it is funded by the European Commission programme Creative Europe. The cast on stage are the members of the seventh Opera (e)Studio, the high specialisation academy.

The details of the production were revealed today, Wednesday the 16th at Auditorio de Tenerife by the Councillor for Culture of the Cabildo, Concepción Rivero; the artistic director of the Auditorio, José Luis Rivero; Opera (e)Studio’s artistic director, Giulio Zappa; the musical director, Antonio Méndez, and the stage director, Pablo Maritano.

The ten singers were chosen in auditions held in Bologna, Tbilisi, Madrid and Tenerife last February which were entered by 181 candidates of 33 different nationalities. The singers taking part are María Rita Combattelli (soprano); Beatriz de Sousa (soprano); Klodjan Kaçani (tenor); César Arrieta (tenor); Alberto Bonifazio (baritone); Jacobo Ochoa (baritone); Givi Gigineishvili (bass); Matteo Andrea Mollica (bass); Sofía Esparza (soprano) and Leonora Tess (soprano).

Concepción Rivero admitted that “it’s a pleasure to present L’elisir d’amore”, that will be performed “on this wonderful stage” and that opens Ópera de Tenerife’s new season.  For his part, the artistic director of Auditorio de Tenerife, José Luis Rivero, presented this production of Opera (e)Studio, “the academy specialising in opera singing where we are honoured to have had Giulio Zappa as director from the beginning; singers training at the academy in previous years are now following an international career”.

The artistic director explained that “different reasons make this year unique: this is the first time the principal conductor of Sinfónica de Tenerife is musically directing one of our operas, for which we thank Antonio Méndez’s generosity; it is the European debut of one of the most renowned stage directors in Latin America, Pablo Maritano; and this project is a coproduction between Ópera de Tenerife, Teatro Comunale di Bolognia and Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre, chosen among more than 500 European projects in the Creative Europe programme, and the only opera project that was chosen”.

In Giulio Zappa’s view, “this seventh year is special because of the support of Creative Europe”. Opera (e)Studio artistic director stated that “in my over 20-year-long career I’ve never met such a passionate, committed team as the one in Ópera de Tenerife, who I now regard as family”. Regarding the participants, Zappa thanks them for “these two months together in which I’ve also learnt a lot from them”.

Sinfónica de Tenerife’s principal conductor, Antonio Méndez, admits that “I’m looking forward to making my debut with Ópera de Tenerife; it’s a pleasure to be leading this title by Opera (e)Studio, a very interesting and necessary project in the opera world which this year has brought us two great high-level casts. They are all very different from each other which, in turn, offers a richer result as audiences can value each voice, each character”. For his part, Pablo Maritano thanked the invitation from Ópera de Tenerife intendant, Alejandro Abrante, and Jorge Cabrera, head of technical production of Auditorio de Tenerife, and his “tireless” team. “The whole team has surrounded us with their enthusiasm and although this sector is always full of challenges, we’re very happy about how we’ve dealt with them and with the final result”.

This Ópera de Tenerife production is a melodramma giocoso by Gaetano Donizetti with the libretto by Felice Romani, based on the text Le philtre by Eugène Scribe for Daniel François Esprit Auber’s opera. One of the most praised operas by the composer thanks to unforgettable melodies like ‘Una furtiva lagrima’ and a lively plot about the love affair between beautiful Adina and naive Nemorino. It was premiered at Teatro della Canobbiana in Milan on 12 May 1832.

Opera (e)Studio is the high specialisation academy for Ópera de Tenerife artists, which has had Giulio Zappa as artistic director since 2012. This project was set up with the aim of providing training in all the opera disciplines for young artists while at the same time meeting the demands of the present work market. The selected artists arrived on the island last September and have been working on different areas ranging from musical and stage performance techniques to style, diction, body language or dramaturgy which are combined with rehearsals done at the professional pace set by a theatre: costume fittings, make-up and rehearsing with the orchestra.

The performances on Thursday, the 24th, Friday, the 25th and Saturday the 26th are taking place at 7:30 pm. The show in at 6:00 pm on Sunday, the 27^th. Quantum Ensemble, resident at Auditorio de Tenerife, is opening the 2019-2020 season on Thursday the 17^th at 7:30 pm. The Sala de Cámara welcomes the programme Vínculos, featuring soprano Anna Dennis, violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky, clarinettist Cristo Barrios, cellist Richard Lester, and pianist Javier Negrín.

Also, at the Sala de Cámara the editor of the Scherzo magazine, Juan Lucas, will be giving the admission-free pre-concert talk at 6:30 pm. This photographer, filmmaker, music promotor and producer, journalist, writer, librettist, translator and musicographer will talk about both the Quantum Ensemble and the repertoire to provide a context for the audience.

The social outreach activities connected to this concert are to start on Thursday at 11:00 am in the same place. The session aims at bringing music closer to audiences and will be attended by members of the Programa de Dinamización Sociocultural e Intervención Social Ansina, of the Asociación de Padres de Personas con Discapacidad Intelectual and the Centro Ocupacional La Guancha. The University of Leeds lecturer, Víctor Durà-Vilà, revealed that “the Quantum Ensemble presents in this programme three figures who, coming together in the Vienna of the end of the 19th- and beginning of the 20th-century, showcase wonderfully the creative exuberance that took place in that city at that time”.

The concert includes Transfigured Night, one of Arnold Schoenberg’s most popular works, plus two other very interesting pieces: the Trio in D minor for Clarinet, Cello and Piano by Alexander Zemlinsky and The Heavenly Life, a song for soprano and orchestra by Gustav Mahler, that dates from the time he composed the song cycle The Boy’s Magic Horn, but that finally became the fourth movement of his Symphony Nº 4.

In Durà-Vilà’s opinion, “It is particularly noteworthy that, in their continued effort to expand their chamber repertoire, the Quantum Ensemble is performing two of these three compositions as arrangements that require only three musicians, therefore providing a different instrumental perspective and allowing a contrasting, and at the same time interesting, aural experience”.

Belcore, el sargento que corteja a la bella Adina en el melodramma giocoso que creara Donizetti para su ópera L’elisir d’amore, será interpretado por las voces de Alberto Bonifazio y Jacobo Ochoa, artistas de la séptima edición de Opera (e)Studio, que se pondrá en escena del 24 al 27 de octubre en el Auditorio de Tenerife.

Alberto Bonifazio es un artista italiano de veintiséis años que se formó como pianista y cantante lírico en el Conservatorio Niccolò Paganini de Génova y como solista en el Centre de Perfeccionament Plácido Domingo de Valencia. Aunque es su primera vez en la isla, sí tiene referencias de Ópera de Tenerife. “Conocía algunas producciones de temporadas pasadas” y más concretamente del programa Opera (e)Studio a través de participantes en otras ediciones y eso le impulsó a presentarse. “No dudé ni un momento cuando vi que la audición era para L’elisir d’amore”.

El colombiano Jacobo Ochoa, de veinticuatro años, cursa estudios en la Guildhall School of Music and Drama de Londres, hace su debut en Ópera de Tenerife y, al igual que Alberto Bonifazio, ya conocía Ópera (e)Studio por medio de amigos que habían participado en ediciones anteriores y se lo habían recomendado.

Ambos cantantes se estrenan en Tenerife, pero no lo hacen en el título en el que van a participar. Para Bonifazio, “se trata de una obra increíble y muy divertida para cantar” y Ochoa recuerda que la primera vez que participó en L’elisir d’amore fue en Medellín, su ciudad natal, y le asombra “el parecido de los personajes que creó Donizetti con la época actual”. Para el colombiano, “la comedia es definitivamente la protagonista, junto a las melodías que ha creado el compositor para determinados momentos de la obra”.

Bonifazio y Ochoa tienen clara su idea de futuro en el terreno profesional. El italiano quiere “seguir cantando por muchos años en plena salud, poder viajar por el mundo”, mientras que el colombiano -que reside en el Reino Unido- aspira a “seguir construyendo mi carrera siempre bajo los valores que creo fundamentales; me gustaría seguir cantando en España y los demás países de Europa”. Además, muestra “un gran respeto y amor por Verdi, y me encantaría llegar a cantar algunas de sus óperas”. 

Bonifazio llega a Tenerife después de participar el pasado mes de julio en Valencia en la producción Don Giovanni, mientras que la última presencia de Ochoa en un escenario fue en Bogotá con El barbero de Sevilla. Tras esas actuaciones, se incorporaron a la nueva edición  de Opera (e)Studio a primeros de septiembre. Desde entonces, junto a otros ocho compañeros, han iniciado un proceso formativo de perfeccionamiento artístico integral. Esta formación, que dirige Giulio Zappa, está distribuida en diferentes clases magistrales con profesionales de primer nivel internacional y continúa con los ensayos habituales de una producción de ópera, fase en la que se encuentran actualmente. El programa culminará con la representación de L’elisir d’amore del 24 al 27 de octubre. En las cuatro funciones previstas, Alberto Bonifazio asumirá el jueves y sábado el rol de Belcore, mientras que Jacobo Ocho lo hará el viernes y domingo.

The sopranos Maria Rita Combattelli and Beatriz de Sousa will bring to life the rich and beautiful landowner Adina, in Donizetti’s comic opera L’elisir d’amore. This title opens the new Ópera de Tenerife season and will be put on from 24 to 27 October at Auditorio de Tenerife. Combattelli will perform on Thursday and Saturday while De Sousa will sing on Friday and Sunday.

Italian Combattelli and Portuguese De Sousa are part of the seventh Opera (e)Studio, which they both learned about from other singers who have taken part in this Ópera de Tenerife’s project. Combattelli believes that “the title this year is very interesting, and I thought I should make the most of this opportunity” and De Sousa admits she was encouraged to take part because of “the opportunity of making my debut in the role of Adina”.

Maria Rita Combattelli, who is a student at the Accademia del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, recalls that “I’ve always liked singing, since I was a little girl. My mum says I knew all the cartoon songs by heart”. De Sousa, who is studying at University of Music Vienna and at the Liceu’s Conservatoire, started her studies when she was sixteen and came to Tenerife in the past to take part in the masterclasses of Giulio Zappa, who is the artistic director of Opera (e)Studio. In contrast this is the first time Combattelli is on the island.

They are both certain that L’elisir d’amore “is a brilliant and amusing work that blends comic and opera features seamlessly”. Combattelli highlights ‘Adina’s complex psychology; she is a strong, independent woman as shown by every word she says”, while De Sousa points out that “the music is wonderful, it’s the type of music that traps your ear at once and remains with you for a long time”.

Regarding the difficulty of tackling a role like Adina, Beatriz de Sousa explains that “Adina greatly develops as a character throughout the opera and the last aria portrays this psychological and musical culmination”. In Rita Combattelli’s opinion, the complexity of the role “lies in the vocal part, as it is a bel canto role, but you must keep up the energy of the character right through the work”.

Combattelli and De Sousa appreciate coming to the Opera (e)Studio training programme. The Italian singer points out, among others, her “surprise at being treated with the professionality and respect due to professionals”. For her part, De Sousa is delighted with the experience and highlights “the high level they demand from us”. The Lisbon soprano says that “in Opera (e)Studio de Tenerife I’ve found the perfect balance between the support a young singer needs and the necessary exposure to start off her career”.

As for future goals, Combattelli prefers not to strive for a specific one but to “go on taking in the work done these months at Opera (e)Studio and doing her very best every day”, while the Italian singer says her goal is to become “a thorough  artist, taking care of voice technique and particularly, being a great performer on the stage”.

This Ópera de Tenerife production -jointly with Teatro Comunale di Bologna and Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre- is funded by the European Commission through its Creative Europe scheme. It is a debut in Europe of stage director, Pablo Maritano, who transports us to Hollywood golden age, adorned with the stage design by Serena Rocco, Lorena Marin’s costumes and lighting design by Virginio Levrio.

La asistente de dirección de la compañía de danza tinerfeña Lava, Dácil González, ha recibido hoy [lunes 7] el Premio Nacional de Danza en Interpretación 2019. La bailarina, mano derecha del director artístico de la formación residente de Auditorio de Tenerife, Daniel Abreu -Premio Nacional de Danza 2014-, obtiene el galardón “por el impecable nexo entre técnica, emoción y capacidad comunicativa, desarrollado a lo largo de más de 20 años, con solidez y constancia”.

El jurado, que premió en la categoría de Creación a Estévez/Paños y Compañía, también ha destacado especialmente su interpretación en La desnudez, último trabajo de la Compañía Daniel Abreu, de la que forma parte. “Esta pieza resalta su espléndido perfil de intérprete, que trabaja desde la resistencia y el compromiso”, asegura el comité en el acta.

“A través de su trayectoria puede leerse gran parte de la historia de la danza contemporánea hecha en España”, recalca el jurado de estos premios, que concede anualmente el Ministerio de Cultura y Deporte del Gobierno de España y que están dotados con 30.000 euros cada uno.

Dácil González es colaboradora asidua del bailarín y creador tinerfeño Daniel Abreu, junto al que ha trabajado en los espectáculos Equilibrio (2010), Animal (2011), Silencio (2013), Venere (2015) y La desnudez (2017). Desde 2018 trabaja mano a mano con Abreu en la dirección artística de la compañía tinerfeña Lava.

Formada en estudios superiores de danza en la modalidad de Coreografía y Técnicas de Interpretación, la canaria Dácil González comenzó sus estudios junto a Julián Brandon y María Eulate. Desde 1996 vive y trabaja en Madrid, donde ha desarrollado buena parte de su trayectoria como bailarina, participando en compañías como 10&10 danza -dirigida por Mónica Runde y Pedro Berdäyes-, donde trabajó desde 1998; La Piel Danza, agrupación dirigida por José Reches; Larumbe Danza y Els Visitants Compañía de Teatre, entre otras.

Fuera de España, bailó para el Staatstheater Darmstadt bajo la dirección de Mei Hong Lin. Ha participado también en diversas óperas y algunas películas como El otro lado de la cama, con coreografía de Pedro Berdäyes, y Pasos de baile, dirigida por John Malkovich. Como coreógrafa destacan los trabajos Solo de momento, Cuando digo una palabra (creado junto a Gustavo Martín), una colaboración con la compañía Maltrago Teatro para el espectáculo La niña sin muelas, y el montaje It, creado junto a Gustavo Martín y Jesús Caramés con la agrupación que fundaron y codirigen desde 2009, LA. Otra Compañía Danza.

Dácil González se encuentra actualmente trabajando en el estreno de las dos nuevas piezas de Lava, coreografiadas por el israelí Roy Assaf y el coreano Dong Kyu Kim, que tendrá lugar el 1 de diciembre a las 19:00 horas en la Sala Sinfónica el Auditorio de Tenerife, en el marco del Festival de Artes Escénicas Telón Tenerife. Dácil González the assistant director of Tenerife dance company Lava took today, Monday the 7^th, the Premio Nacional de Danza en Interpretación 2019 [National Dance Award for Performance]. The dancer is the right-hand person of Daniel Abreu, who won the Premio Nacional de Danza in 2014 and is the artistic director of this company resident at Auditorio de Tenerife. She was granted the award “because she has consistently and soundly delivered a seamless link between technique, emotion and communicative ability in her performances for more than 20 years”.

The jury, who gave the prize for the Creation category to Estévez/Paños y Compañía, has highlighted her performance in La desnudez, the latest work by Compañía Daniel Abreu, a company she is part of. “This piece underlines her splendid performer profile which she works on through perseverance and commitment”, the committee states in their report.

“Through her career we can glimpse at the history of contemporary dance made in Spain”, the jury stressed. These awards are granted every year by the Ministry of Culture and Sport of the Government of Spain and come with a 30,000-euro cash prize each.

Dácil González usually collaborates with the Tenerife dancer and creator Daniel Abreu and has worked with him in shows like Equilibrio (2010), Animal (2011), Silencio (2013), Venere (2015) and La desnudez (2017). Since 2018 she has been working side by side with Abreu at the artistic direction of Tenerife company Lava.

Having started her training with Julián Brandon and María Eulate, the Canarian dancer graduated in the specialities of Choreography and Performance Techniques. She has lived and worked in Madrid since 1996 where she has carried out most of her dance career, taking part in companies like 10&10 danza -directed by Mónica Runde and Pedro Berdäyes-, where she started to work in 1998; La Piel Danza, directed by José Reches; Larumbe Danza and Els Visitants Compañía de Teatre, among others.

Abroad, she has danced for the Staatstheater Darmstadt directed by Mei Hong Lin and has also taken part in different operas and some films such as El otro lado de la cama, with a choreography by Pedro Berdäyes, and Pasos de baile, directed by John Malkovich. As choreographer, her works include Solo de momento, Cuando digo una palabra (created with Gustavo Martín), a collaboration with the company Maltrago Teatro for the show La niña sin muelas, and the production It, created with Gustavo Martín and Jesús Caramés with the group they started and have codirected since 2009, LA. Dácil González is currently working in the premiere of two new pieces by Lava, choreographed by Israeli Roy Assaf and Korean Dong Kyu Kim, to take place at 7:00 pm on 1 December at Auditorio de Tenerife’s Sala Sinfónica as part of the Festival de Artes Escénicas Telón Tenerife [Telón Tenerife Performing Arts Festival].

The Festival Canarias Jazz Showroom-XI Muestra de Jazz de Canarias offers a busy weekend at Auditorio de Tenerife with a programme that includes bands ranging from jazz manouche, to Latin jazz to fusion jazz. Also taking place is the event Swing Fest, which is aimed at audiences who love this music and dance style, plus the awards II Premios Canarias Jazz Showroom. Bands playing include Crazy Cats, Ancor Miranda Quintet, Havana Vibes, Charlie Moreno and CJS Reunion with dancer Jep Meléndez as special guest.

The first concerts of Canarias Jazz Showroom are being held on Saturday, the 5th at 7:30 pm at Auditorio de Tenerife’s Sala de Cámara. It features the live performance of the Ancor Miranda Quintet, made up of Gianni Glagiardi, tenor sax; Álvaro Torres, piano; Octavio Hernández, electric guitar; Basile Rahola, double bass; and Ancor Miranda – who’s penned all the compositions – at the drums. Next on stage is Havana Vibes, a project based on different musical varieties from diverse countries, which not only aims to be a musical itinerary but a life one too.

At the end, the Swing Fest is offering a performance by Crazy Cats at 9:30 pm at the Auditorio foyer. It is a tribute to swing, to jazz manouche and to that style that sprang in the United States in the 1930s which grew into a culture encompassing music, dance, clothes, food…and specially, the joy of living.

On Sunday the 6th, Canarias Jazz Showroom presents CJS Reunión in concert. This is a project to pay tribute to Canarian jazz composers and it also has the aim of paying homage to our jazz musical heritage. They are the support band for the ceremony of the 2^nd Canarias Jazz Showroom awards and will be joined by the great tap-dancer and body percussion artist Jep Meléndez. The band includes Daniel González, drums; Carlos Costa, double bass; Kevin Díaz, piano, Aaron Barreiro, vibraphone; Kike Perdomo, saxes; and Idafe Pérez, trumpet.

It will then be the turn of the Charlie Moreno Quintet. This Gran Canaria-born young musician is a bass player, composer, and producer who has lived in mainland Spain, both in Madrid and Barcelona for nearly 20 years. He has taken classes with great musicians of the jazz scene including Russell Malone, Gary Grainger, Yellowjackets, Dave Weckl, Tom Kennedy, Richard Bona, Richie Goods, Victor Bailey and Victor Wooten, among others.

The Muestra de Jazz de Canarias was set up in 2009 by musician and composer Kike Perdomo as the first event focusing on presenting Canarian projects that do not always find a niche on the islands. Over the years, the quality, variety of styles and number of concerts that enter the show have increased exponentially to the point that it has become a major showcase of what is happening in and out of the islands through the participation of Canarian composers, musicians and producers. 

This week Ópera de Tenerife is travelling to the municipalities of El Sauzal and La Laguna with two opera recitals. The first one is held today, Tuesday the 1st at 8:30 pm, in Teatro El Sauzal. The second recital is taking place on Thursday, the 3rd at 7:30 pm, at the Paraninfo of La Laguna University. They are organized by the Cabildo de Tenerife with the collaboration of El Sauzal Town Council and the University. Admission to the concerts is free.

The following young singers of the 7th Opera (e)Studio project are taking part in the recitals: Maria Rita Combattelli, Beatriz de Sousa, Klodjan Kaҫani, César Arrieta, Alberto Bonifazio, Jacobo Ochoa, Givi Gigineishvili, Matteo Andrea Mollica, Sofía Esparza and Leonora Tess. The piano accompaniment is by maestros Hana Lee and Claudio Marchetti.

The programme includes some of the most beautiful songs from operas like Il barbiere di Siviglia, La Scala di seta (Rossini), L’elisir d’amore, Poliuto (Donizetti), Falstaff (Verdi), La sonnambula (Bellini), Faust (Gounod), La bohème (Puccini), Die tote Stadt (Korngold), Eugenio Oneguin (Tchaikovsky), Chateau Margaux (Férnandez Caballero) and Carmen (Bizet).

The ten singers arrived on the Island in early September and have been busy attending comprehensive opera training sessions at Auditorio de Tenerife. So far, they have had masterclasses by Opera (e)Studio’s artistic director, Giulio Zappa, soprano Mariella Devia, stage director Pablo Maritano and Ópera de Tenerife’s intendent, Alejandro Abrante.

This artistic improvement training will conclude with the staging of L’elisir d’amore from 24 to 27 October. This title opens the 2019-2020 Ópera de Tenerife season. This is a coproduction with Teatro Comunale di Bologna, and Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre with the funding of the Creative Europe programme.
