The island's schools can send in their applications until 23 April

The Culture and Education departments of Tenerife Island Council have published the catalogue Teatro en la Escuela (Theatre at School) for this season. The initiative, whose management has been entrusted to Auditorio de Tenerife, brings together productions by the 16 selected companies that schools can apply for on the website www.tenerifeartesescenicas.com from now until 23 April. To ensure its realisation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this project changed its format to a non-face-to-face format.

Alejandro Krawietz, the island's Director of Culture, highlights the effort made by the area to bring this programme to fruition. "For Tenerife Island Council, it was important to maintain this activity despite the difficulties; it really generates interest in the educational field, it allows us to contribute to amplify humanist activities in schools and helps us to generate new audiences for the performing arts in Tenerife".

Isabel Bello, the island's Director of Education and Youth, also values this project. "Teatro en la Escuela" is an offer that island's educational centres, from Pre-Primary Education to Baccalaureate, can find to carry out activities in their own facilities; it covers all educational cycles". Bello points out that the pre-recorded plays and dances will be shown in educational centres. A didactic guide and virtual meetings with the performers will complement this offer.

The catalogue and application instructions can be found under the section "Teatro en la Escuela" at www.tenerifeartesescenicas.com. A commission of experts, who assessed the artistic and didactic proposal, made a selection from among the 23 companies presented. In accordance with the regulations for this year's insular project, only one show per company was chosen. Each company will perform a minimum of ten shows.

Thus, for Pre-Primary Education, the shows Pedro y el lobo by Ballets de Tenerife, Monstruoso by Contando Ando & Co and Mi isla de agua by I+D Danza have been chosen. 

The offer for Primary Education is: Esto no es una prueba de sonido by Carlota Mantecón, 80 días bailando alrededor del mundo by Jaster & Luis Creaciones, A leer el Quijote by Bolina Teatro de Títeres, Clównbate! by Clownbaret, La príncipe y el princesa by Tragaluz Teatro de Títeres, La historia del gato que no sabía leer by El Wije Producciones and Los secretos de mi paraguas by Antonio Conejo.

The proposals for Secondary Education are Amarga Dulce by Cía. Paula Quintana, Bailando a los clásicos II by Entredanza and Eurípides no te Sófocles que te Esquilo by Timaginas Teatro. 

Finally, for Baccalaureate and Vocational Training, La voz humana, a subtitled pocket opera by Vector de Ideas, Menos mojadas by Mon Peraza and Entre burlas y veras by Teatro Tamaska have been selected.

The aim of this project is to introduce students to performing languages in their own educational context, to bring the performing arts closer and to disseminate them among the island's pupils. This initiative also seeks to link academic and professional contexts of the performing arts in Tenerife; at the same time, it promotes values centred on dance and the arts of movement related to art, health, the body and movement. All of them are inherent to dance as an artistic discipline with a cross-curricular approach.

This week, Víctor Pablo Pérez will conduct both performances at the Auditorio de Tenerife

This week the Auditorium welcomes a double appointment during the season of the Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife. On Thursday the 25^th and on Friday the 26^th of March, the Orchestra will join the choir Coral Reyes Bartlet to perform Messa di Gloria by Pietro Mascagni, during which the soloist tenor Igor Peral and the baritone Mark Stone will also feature at this concert. The programme will start with Dona nobis pacem, a tribute to the victims of coronavirus by the Galician composer Juan Durán. Both concerts start at 7:30 pm; tickets for Friday’s concert are already sold out.

Dona nobis pacem, Elexía ás víctimas do Covid-19, by Juan Durán (1960) is a composition written in April 2020; it expresses the sense of loss and uncertainty through a compact framework of violas, cellos and harp. This instrumental dialogue condenses a reflection on the global pandemic, ranging from remembrance to hope. 

Messa di Gloria is a score written in 1888 by Pietro Mascagni (1863-1945). The author writes this work with simple resources that he initially devised for a choir of students who would be supported by a group of professionals during its première. This work emulates a prayer, an inner dialogue of faith accompanied by quiet melodies. 

Víctor Pablo Pérez, the honorary conductor of Sinfónica de Tenerife, studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid and at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich. He was artistic director and chief conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Asturias between 1980 and 1988 and of the Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife between 1986 and 2005. In 1993 he started to conduct the Symphony Orchestra of Galicia, a task he carried out until 2013. That year he joined the Orchestra and Choir of the Community of Madrid as artistic director and conductor. Since January 2017 he has been the artistic director of the Youth Orchestra of the Canary Islands. 

The choir Coral Reyes Bartlet was founded in 1970 and since 1984 it has been directed by José Híjar Polo. During this concert, during which health protocols against the pandemic are taken, the choir will expand its vocal power with singers of proven choral and soloist experience. The last performance of the choir ensemble with the Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife was in January 2013. 

José Híjar Polo graduated in 1983 at the "Royal Schools of Music in London". He began his musical studies in Puerto de la Cruz and continued in Alicante and Madrid with José Tomás and Miguel Ángel Jiménez.  He founded the David Goldsmith Youth Choir in 2005 and the Reyes Bartlet Vocal Group in 2013. Since 1995 he has been a choir teacher at the Escuela Municipal de Música y Danza of la Orotava. Centro de Iniciativas Turísticas of Puerto de la Cruz awarded him the Silver Medal in 2004 for his 20 years directing the choir.

The Navarra born tenor Igor Peral began his musical career in the Orfeón Donostiarra and developed his musical training in Pamplona, San Sebastián, Bordeaux and Madrid. The soloist has performed in Rossini's Stabat Mater with the Orchestra Luxembourg Philharmonia, Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 and Mozart's Requiem at the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, Eslava's Misa de Difuntos at the Sala Mozart (Auditorio de Zaragoza), Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, or Eslava's Miserere with the Symphony Orchestra of Zaragoza, among others.

London baritone Mark Stone studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In 1998, he received the Decca Prize at the Kathleen Ferrier Awards. His recent opera engagements include performances at the Grand Théâtre de Genève and the Longborough Festival. He has also performed "West Side Story" with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and Sir Antonio Pappano, the “Matthew Passion” with the Orchestre National de Lyon, and Thomas Ades' Totentanz with Daniel Harding and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre de Paris, among others.

Auditorio de Tenerife is a cultural space linked to the Department of Culture of Tenerife Island Council that is managed by the counsellor Enrique Arriaga. Next Wednesday, the 24^th of March at 7:30 p.m., the Auditorium welcomes the concert Miradas (Glances) by Quantum Ensemble. Five musicians will perform this program during which pieces of female-composers of two centuries will be played. 

The musicians Lina Tur Bonet (violin), Sara Cabrera (flute), Cristo Barrios (clarinet), Ángel Luis Quintana (cello) and Javier Negrín (piano) will play during this concert compositions of Ethel Smyth (1858-1944), Cécile Chaminade (1857-1944), Germaine Tailleferre (1892-1983), Laura Vega (n. 1978) and Lili Boulanger (1893-1918).

The Quantum Ensemble thus brings together in this programme five women composers who, during the time-frame of the late 19^th and early 20^th centuries, show the creative richness of women who lived during that period. The concert offers D'un soir triste and D'un matin de printemps, two of Lili Boulanger's most popular chamber works, along with two other interesting pieces by Germaine Tailleferre: Trio for violin, cello and piano and Arabesque, a miniature for clarinet and piano.

The Quantum Ensemble will also play an arrangement of the popular flute concerto by Cécile Chaminade and the Variations on an original theme by Ethel Smyth, an interesting piano piece by the composer and leader of the suffragettes, a British women-only movement. Laura Vega's premièred Ni neu, a trio for violin, clarinet and piano that the Canary Islands-born composer wrote for the group, will also be performed.

The concert will last 75 minutes during which Martín Llade, radio presenter of Sinfonía de la mañana on Radio Clásica (RNE), will talk about the repertoire to contextualise the women-composers and their time.

Tomorrow, Thursday the 18^th of March at 6:00 pm, Auditorio de Tenerife premieres the opera Il matrimonio segreto, by Domenico Cimarosa. This will be the first of four performances planned for this piece, a coproduction driven by Auditorio de Tenerife together with Teatro Regio di Parma and Teatro Massimo di Palermo. The singers who comprise the eighth edition of Opera (e)Studio will feature this opera. The four daily performances until Sunday the 21^st of March, will all start at 6:00 pm; tickets are sold out for Friday and Saturday. This initiative is promoted by the Department of Culture of Tenerife Island Council -managed by the Councillor Enrique Arriaga - through Ópera de Tenerife.

Il matrimonio segreto will situate the scene in New York in the 1950s, where the patisserie Geronimo & Co. specialising in babàs (a typical sweet from Naples) is run by an Italian who misses his home-town. His youngest daughter, Carolina, has secretly married Paolino, a delivery boy at the bakery; both of them dream of starring in Broadway musicals. Geronimo's idea of marrying off his daughters to great noblemen will lead to the plot, originally set in Bologna in the 18^thcentury.

During this first performance, Italian sopranos Giulia Mazzola and Eleonora Nota will respectively take on the roles of Carolina and Elisetta; French mezzo-soprano Claire Gascoin will be Fidalma, while the male roles will be played by Turkish tenor Bekir Serbest (Paolino), Italian bass Francesco Leone (Geronimo) and Chilean baritone Ramiro Maturana (Count Robinson). This cast will be the same as in Saturday's performance.

The performances on Friday and Sunday, both starting at 6:00 pm, will feature German soprano Veronika Seghers (Carolina), Italian soprano Marilena Ruta (Elisetta), Italian mezzo-soprano Mara Gaudenzi (Fidalma), Italian tenor Antonio Mandrillo (Paolino), Lithuanian bass Ignas Melnikas (Geronimo) and Spanish baritone Jan Antem (Count Robinson).

These singers have been on the island since 27 January when they began a training programme coordinated by Giulio Zappa, artistic director of Opera (e)Studio since 2013. Roberto Catalano is the stage director and the music will be played by the Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife conducted by Davide Levi; Emanuele Sinisi is in charge of the set design, the costumes were created by Ilaria Ariemme and the lighting designer is Fiammetta Baldiserri. All of them feature for the first time at Opera de Tenerife, except Baldiserri.

Opera (e)Studio is a project of Opera de Tenerife that aims to train singers after a comprehensive artistic improvement programme that began last January. During this multi-purpose initiative, artists work on many aspects such as techniques of musical interpretation to stage performance; style, diction, body language or dramaturgy, which will alternate with sessions resembling the real professional pace of a theatre: costume tests, make-up and rehearsals with the orchestra.

Enrique Arriaga, councillor for Culture, stresses that thirteen concerts will be offered during this edition that starts on Sunday

On Sunday, 21 March at 11:30 am, the Auditorio de Tenerife will host the first concert of the "Primavera Musical 2021". The brass bands will feature 13 concerts during this 17^th edition. All bands are registered in Tenerife’s brass band federation, the public entity that organises this activity with the collaboration of Tenerife Island Council. Enrique Arriaga, councillor for Culture, mentioned that all concerts are scheduled until 13 June.

Arriaga stresses that "this edition will be special for some of the musical groups, as some of them will perform for the first time in the Auditorium’s Symphonic Hall". He added that "the Chamber Hall will continue to be the main venue for concerts, but in order to comply with safety regulations, big bands have been moved to the main hall".

The councillor recalls that "the state of emergency was declared a year ago, and it affected the last edition of Primavera Musical. Thus, only two concerts could be held". Now he is confident that "this time we will enjoy the brass band proposals, as they are important for the popular culture of the Canary Islands".

The band concerts will continue until June. They will be held in the two main halls and the tickets are free. Tickets are now available for the opening session, which will feature the "Asociación Musical Puerto de la Cruz", directed by Jairo Cabrera Estévez; the "Unión Musical Aida San Andrés", under the baton of Juan Alexis González Rodríguez, and the "Asociación Músico-Cultural Ernesto Beteta" (Santa Úrsula), conducted by Miguel Ángel Expósito Marrero.

The remaining concerts take place on 27 (Symphony Hall), and on 28 March, 4 and 25 April, 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 May, and on 12 (Symphony Hall). The last concert will be offered on 13 June. On that last day, a morning concert will be featured in the Chamber Hall and an afternoon concert will be given in the Symphony Hall. Performances in the Chamber Hall will take place at 11:30 a.m. and those in the Symphony Hall will begin at 6:00 p.m. 

Primavera Musical is an initiative that was first launched in 2005 by the federation "Federación Tinerfeña de Bandas de Música", with the collaboration of Tenerife Island Council. Due to the lockdown, only two concerts could be held last year. The activity will set off again on Sunday this week under strict safety and hygiene measures, that are aimed at guaranteeing safety both for the public and the musicians.

The piece 'Should they, may be' will be performed on Wednesday [17th] at 7:30 pm and includes a subsequent talk with the artists

Auditorio de Tenerife is a cultural space linked to the Department of Culture of Tenerife Island Council that is managed by the councillor Enrique Arriaga. On Wednesday [17th] at 7:30 pm it will offer the show ‘Should they may be’, a dance performance in charge of the resident company of “Centro Coreográfico de La Gomera”. Tickets, at a single price of eight Euros, include a subsequent talk with the artists.

Gregory Auger and Martín Padrón star in, choreograph and direct this proposal. The performance takes human complexity as an impulse. The show is part of the "21^st extension” of the Arts of Movement Festival FAM 20. 

Both artists reflect how humans need to express, tell and transmit their strengths and weaknesses. They also address other topics like the vital need to move, to feel, to follow a path, to become absorbed in thoughts, the lack of faith, to feel fear or the need to feel free from traumas. Auger and Padrón also stress that "brave people need confidence at the moment, they also need compassion and dedication".

This piece has the support of INAEM (Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sports), the Government of the Canary Islands and La Gomera Island Council; Grace Morales is the lighting designer and the music has been created by Auger herself. Cristina Pérez Sosa is in charge of the distribution and María Darias is in charge of the administration.

The programme, 'On pathos’ path: when content exceeds the form', will take place on Tuesday at 7:30 pm

Next Tuesday [16] at 7:30 pm it will offer a piano concert by Iván Martín that appeals to our hearts and minds. The programme On pathos’ path: when content exceeds the form will take place in the Chamber Hall and will last 75 minutes. 

The Canary Islands-born pianist explains how Aristotle mentioned pathos in his Rhetoric as a capacity to excite and move listeners, as opposed to logos: pathos’ rational antagonist. This recital proposes a dialogue between these two aspects. It is inspired in composers who were able to transcend the content of the work beyond the form it obeys, who broke the boundaries between creation and audience, who established a new paradigm to create a new musical approach. The programme will feature pieces by Ludwig Van Beethoven, Sergei Prokofiev and Frédéric Chopin. 

Iván Martín was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; both reviews and the audience acknowledge him as one of the most brilliant musicians of his generation. He is also a founder member and musical director of the Galdós Ensemble, a new and versatile orchestral group with the aim of performing baroque music and that from the classicism, as well as modern and contemporary music. Iván Martín has been a resident artist at the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra and at Centro Cultural Miguel Delibes of Valladolid. Since the 2019-2020 season, he is also the chief conductor at Burgos Symphony Orchestra. He collaborates with practically all Spanish and with many other international orchestras. He has recorded several radio and TV-programmes in Spain, France, Italy, Brazil and the United States.

El toque de queda impuesto por el Gobierno de Canarias obliga a que las representaciones comiencen todas a las 18:00 horas

Auditorio de Tenerife ha modificado el horario de comienzo de las tres primeras funciones de la ópera Il matrimonio segreto, debido al toque de queda impuesto hoy [jueves 11] por el Gobierno de Canarias. Así, las representaciones de los días 18, 19 y 20 empezarán a las 18:00 horas y de esta forma coinciden con el horario programado para la cuarta y última puesta en escena el domingo, día 21.

Las cifras de contagios que ha acumulado la isla de Tenerife en los últimos días han provocado que el Gobierno de Canarias haya decretado hoy establecer un toque de queda a partir de las 22:00 horas durante las dos próximas semanas. Por este motivo, las tres funciones de ópera que estaban programadas para las 19:30 horas, se adelantan a las 18:00.

Alejandro Krawietz pointed out that this Opera (e)Studio edition has seen a record participation

Tenerife's Island Council presents the opera Il matrimonio segreto, by Domenico Cimarosa. It will be performed from March 18^th to 21^st in the Symphonic Hall of Auditorio de Tenerife. This opera is a co-production with Teatro Reggio di Parma and Teatro Massimo di Palermo, both of which will host it during the 2021/22 season. The staging is set in the 1950s and takes place in a New York bakery. The opera will be performed by the twelve singers who comprise the eighth class of Opera (e)Studio, a comprehensive learning project organised by Ópera de Tenerife.

The details of this production were announced today [Thursday 11] by Alejandro Krawietz, Island’s Director of Culture, and Giulio Zappa, Artistic Director of Opera (e)Studio; Roberto Catalano, Stage Director and Davide Levi, Conductor. Details were announced during an informative event at which all twelve singers who will star during the four performances were also present.

According to the Island's Director of Culture "the programme has a comprehensive character in the operatic field", qualifying it as a highlight during this season of Opera de Tenerife. Krawietz explained the difficulties inherent in this edition due to the pandemic. He also pointed out that "during their stay on the island, the twelve singers undergo a learning process with a very intense professional pace". He also declared that "singers were chosen through an international call for applications, which attracted 195 candidates, a record number in all editions that have been held".

Giulio Zappa, Artistic Director, stressed the importance of this project in which almost hundred singers have participated over the last eight years. He thanked the whole team for their involvement in bringing this work to fruition. He also hoped that "the singers will always remember this time in Tenerife, despite the fact that this year has been a bit peculiar due to the health situation"; he was confident that this experience will be "important and fun for their life and professional career".

Roberto Catalano, Stage Director of Il matrimonio segreto, said he was "very happy to be here during this peculiar historical moment. “We have made a team effort and I thank everyone for making me feel at home. Davide Levi, Conductor, emphasised that "the Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife is doing a marvellous job". He also valued how "incredible" it is to offer a concert with audience under these circumstances, so "I am very fortunate to be part of this project".

Catalan singer Jan Antem spoke on behalf of his colleagues. "It is a challenge to perform this opera because it has a very peculiar style," said the Spanish baritone. He added that "the experience in Tenerife has been very pleasant" and also recognises that he is fulfilling a dream by being able to perform this same title in Italy, namely "in two theatres with a long tradition", such as Teatro Reggio di Parma and Teatro Massimo di Palermo.

During this multi-purpose initiative, artists work on multiple aspects, from different techniques of musical interpretation to stage performance; style, diction, body language or dramaturgy, which will alternate with sessions resembling the real professional pace of a theatre: costume tests, make-up and rehearsals with the orchestra.

Auditorio de Tenerife is a cultural space linked to the Department of Culture of Tenerife Island Council that is managed by the councillor of Culture Enrique Arriaga. This Saturday [13] at 7:30 pm its Youth Choir will offer the concert Cantamos. Tickets are on sale at a general price of three euros. The Youth Choir of Auditorio de Tenerife, under the conduction of Roxana Schmunk, returns to stage with this show. The varied repertoire they will offer will serve as a welcome back message of young choristers to the public. 

The concert will begin with Ubi Caritas by Ola Gjeilo, followed by Arrorró arranged by Beatriz Corona and O Love by Elaine Hagenberg. It will continue with Cuando te beso, by Juan Luis Guerra and arrangements by César A. Carrillo, featuring the tenor Andrés Misle; The Seal Lullaby, by Rudyard Kipling and Erik Whitacre. 

The programme will continue with Como la cigarra, by María Elena Walsh, arranged by Beatriz Corona; The Music’s Always There With You by John Rutter; O Lux Beatissima, by Howard Helvey; Ecce Novum, by Ola Gjeilo with Yulissa Hernández as violinist.

The Youth Choir will then sing Leonard Russell's ‘A Song For You’, arranged by Mac Huff and featuring soprano Laura Picar and tenor Cristian Bartolomé; His Light In Us, by Kim A. Andersen; Vida, vida, by Francisco Céspedes arranged by César A. Carrillo and featuring mezzo-soprano Rozied Correa; Bring Me Little Water arranged by Mora Smiley, with contralto Yolanda Pascual. 

The repertoire concludes with Only In Sleep, by Sara Teasdale and Ēriks Ešenvalds, featuring sopranos Alba Egido and Sophie León, and it will end with John Rutter's The Lord Bless You.

The Youth Choir of Auditorio de Tenerife was created in 2016 as part of the Educational and Social Area of Auditorio de Tenerife, a public institution of Tenerife's Island Council. It is comprised by some thirty voices of young people who are between 16 and 30 years old under the direction of Roxana Schmunk. The choir is already a reference in the choral culture of the Canary Islands.

The Youth Choir has been internationally endorsed by five gold medals and two special jury awards achieved at the European Choir Games (Sweden, 2019), and at the Festival Coros de Verão of Lisbon (Portugal, 2017 and 2018). It has also won the first prize at the Canary Islands Choral Singing Competition (Spain, 2017). Year after year, the Youth Choir increases its track record with each challenge it overcomes.

With an innovative staging, the Youth Choir performs a wide variety of themes and musical styles, from sacred music to classical compositions and contemporary music. Despite the sanitary crisis, the choir has continued its activity and with online training. It has even released two video clips: O Love and Si pudiera.

Their weekly rehearsals are carried out during this season under strict safety and hygiene measures. Singers use pedagogical dynamics that link emotion and art, musical knowledge, vocal techniques and corporal expression, placing special emphasis on the real union between its members to achieve harmony and transmits a unique chromatic sound.

Enrique Arriaga states that "this tool will facilitate recruiting municipal cultural managers"

Tenerife Island Council has started to draw up a catalogue for the year 2021 that will contain professional stage and musical performances. According to Enrique Arriaga, councillor for Culture, "we will make this tool available to those municipal authorities who are in charge of implementing those cultural programmes that the Island Council will subsidise".

Arriaga explained that "only those professional performing arts companies or producers that offer cultural productions such as theatre, dance, circus, street arts and music can be registered in this catalogue". The registration shall be carried out through the website www.tenerifeartesescenicas.com. The time frame to register started on Tuesday, 9 March, and the deadline is March 25.

Alejandro Krawietz, the Island's Director of Culture, pointed out that "the budget for this new subsidy issued by Tenerife Island Council for local councils amounts to €450,000”. Regarding how this amount will be distributed, "the Island Council will contribute with the same amount that each municipality will disburse; our aim is that all municipalities have at least €10,000 at their disposal; should that amount not be reached by any of them, the difference would be then transferred to the overall budget". 

Mr Krawietz explained that "this initiative will be managed by the Administrative Service of Culture with the collaboration of Auditorio de Tenerife. We aim to achieve proper administrative coordination that enables us to offer quality programming and to provide greater public access to the stage and musical activities".

The Island Council intends to promote the performing arts and music throughout the island; in this sense, it has developed a guideline to support local councils and facilitate their cultural programming. In recent years, there has been a commitment to producing this catalogue; the last edition for the year 2020 gathered 161 proposals and over 400 activities, many of which were affected by the pandemic.

Giulio Zappa, Roberto Catalano e Izaskun Legarzan protagonizan mañana esta iniciativa

El Auditorio de Tenerife, espacio cultural que depende del Área de Cultura del Cabildo que dirige el consejero Enrique Arriaga, ofrece un encuentro online mañana [martes 9] a las 19:00 horas a través del perfil de Facebook de Ópera de Tenerife. Este acto forma parte de las actividades paralelas a la octava edición de Opera (e)Studio, que finaliza con la puesta en escena de Il matrimonio segreto, de Domenico Cimarosa, del 18 al 21 de marzo, una coproducción de Ópera de Tenerife con el Teatro Regio di Parma y Teatro Massimo di Palermo.

El encuentro online, titulado Ilustración y la búsqueda de la felicidad: un matrimonio verdaderamente secreto, será presentado por la fundadora de la Librería de Mujeres de Canarias, Izaskun Legarza, y consistirá en una conversación entre el director de Opera (e)Studio, Giulio Zappa, y el director de escena de Il matrimonio segreto, Roberto Catalano. Giulio Zappa (Monza, Italia) es el director del proyecto Opera (e)Studio desde que se puso en marcha en 2013. Completó sus estudios musicales bajo la dirección de Oleg Marshev; se graduó en piano con los máximos honores. Asimismo, se graduó con honores en Lengua y Literatura extranjera por la Universita degli Studi di Milano, con una tesis doctoral sobre la ópera rusa, bajo la supervisión de los profesores Fausto Malcovati y Francesco Degrada. Desde 1996 ha llevado a cabo una intensa actividad de conciertos por todo el mundo, además de ser invitado, frecuentemente, como entrenador vocal y profesor colaborador en numerosos teatros y festivales de Europa y Asia.

Roberto Catalano (Palermo, Italia) se estrena este año en Ópera de Tenerife. En 2002 comenzó a dirigir y escribir espectáculos propios, en 2014 ganó el concurso de directores del Festival Orizzonti de Chiusi y en 2016 trabajó como escritor y director del proyecto de AsLiCo Opera Education, una nueva versión de La bohème (Puccini). En su primera aparición será el responsable de la dirección escénica.

Il matrimonio segreto trasladará al público tinerfeño a la Nueva York de los años 50, donde se encuentra la pastelería Geronimo & Co. especializada en babàs (dulce típico de Nápoles) y regentada por un italiano que extraña su ciudad natal. Su hija menor, Carolina, se ha casado en secreto con Paolino, repartidor de la pastelería y ambos sueñan con protagonizar musicales en Broadway. La idea de Geronimo de casar a sus hijas con grandes señores dará lugar el desarrollo de la trama, que originalmente se ubicaba en la Bolonia del siglo XVIII.

Los cantantes participantes en Opera (e)Studio protagonizarán las cuatro funciones divididos en dos elencos. Así, el lituano Ignas Melnikas y el italiano Francesco Leone, bajos ambos, interpretarán a Geronimo; las soprano italianas Eleonara Nota y Marilena Ruta se pondrán en el papel de Elisetta; la italiana Giulia Mazzola y la alemana Veronika Seghers, las dos sopranos, serán Carolina; Fidalma será interpretado por la italiana Mara Gaudenzi y la francesa Claire Gascoin, mezzosopranos; el español Jan Antem y el chileno Ramiro Maturana han sido elegidos para el papel de Conte Robinson, barítonos, mientras que el turco Bekir Serbest y el italiano Antonio Mandrillo, ambos tenores, asumirán el rol de Paolino.

La dirección musical de esta propuesta artística corre a cargo de Davide Levi, al frente de la Sinfónica de Tenerife. El resto del equipo se completa con el diseñador de escenografía Emanuele Sinisi, la diseñadora de vestuario Ilaria Ariemme y la diseñadora de iluminación Fiammetta Baldiserri.
