Conducted by Jaume Santoja and with Daumats Liepins playing the piano, the programme includes the premier 'Alen' by Eduardo Soutullo  

The Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife (OST) is a project of the Island Council’s Department of Culture which is directed by Enrique Arriaga. This new season concert will offer a look at Russian music through two composers who were contemporary of each other but had different aesthetics: Rachmaninov and Stravinsky. 

The programme is rounded up with the premier 'Alen', work which was distinguished with the '10^th Prize to Musical Composition' awarded by AEOS-Fundación BBVA. On Friday, the 4^th of June at 7:30 pm, Jaume Santoja will conduct this concert sponsored by the foundation ‘Fundación Jesus Serra’, with the pianist Daumants Liepins, winner of the María Canals 2019 Competition. 

With his music, the Galician composer Eduardo Soutullo (Vigo, 1968) will guide the audience to the surroundings of Monte Seixo (Pontevedra), where the Porta do Alen is located. According to beliefs, through this megalithic monument, one could access another dimension.

The Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 3 in D minor by Sergei Rachmaninov (1873-1943) is one of the most difficult to tackle as a soloist. Although it is impossible to separate his figure, his works and his outstanding performing talent, his four keyboard concerts are linked to recalled emotions, the passionate longing for what has been lived and longed for; all of it is aligned with the late romantic tradition of the 20^th century.

The composition “The Firebird” in its suit version from 1919 by Igor Stravinski (1882-1971) was premièred just seven months after Rachmaninov premièred his concert. Although this composer was routed in post-romanticism, Stravinsky emerged as an icon of modern art. He gave his best in orchestral music with choreographic works such as the one included in our programme. This score is Diaghilev's first commission for the Russian Ballets in Paris. It is a great symphonic poem by the composer to announce a new harmonic language from which he produced three orchestral suites. The most common of the three will be performed in this concert.

The Valencia-born director Jaume Santonja is currently working for a second season as an assistant conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony. He has combined his activity as a percussion soloist with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra with that of conducting the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the Milan Verdi Symphony Orchestra, the Sicilian Symphony Orchestra and the Antwerp Youth Orchestra. In Spain he has conducted the ORTVE, ADDA-Simfònica, Extremadura, Córdoba, Sinfónica de Asturias and the JONDE. 

His first steps in music were as a percussionist, and as such he has performed under the direction of Mariss Jansons, Daniele Gatti, Yannick Nezet-Seguin, Valery Gergiev, Pierre Boulez, Andris Nelsons, Zubin Mehta, James Levine, Charles Dutoit and Essa-Pekka Salonen. In the case of Jaume Santoja, conducting and composing are activities that cannot be split. Apart from being an arranger, he has a small number of his own creations, especially for chamber music, another of his passions.

The young Latvian Daumants Liepins was the winner of the ‘Vendome Prize at the Verbier Festival 2019’. He is also one of the most promising pianists of his generation. In 2017 he won the Grand National Music Prize of Latvia in the ‘Young Artist of the Year’ category. It is the most prestigious award for a classical musician in his country. He also won the first prize and the special prize of the public at the ‘International Music Competition Maria Canals (Barcelona) 2019’ and the First Prize of the ‘Nordic Piano Competition’. 

In addition to regular solo recitals on various stages around the world, Daumants has performed with several symphony orchestras, including the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, the Romanian National Symphony Orchestra, the Georgian National Symphony Orchestra and the Kaunas Symphony Orchestra.

Auditorio de Tenerife, Teatro Guimerá, Paraninfo de la Universidad de La Laguna, Centro de Arte La Recova and Espacio La Granja will host FAM 21 from the 3rd to the 6th of June

The Auditorio de Tenerife is an institution linked to the Department of Culture of Tenerife Island Council that is managed by the island's Minister of Culture Enrique Arriaga. The institution presents the FAM 2021 edition (Arts of Movement Festival) comprised of 24 contemporary Spanish dance performances. The shows are scheduled from the 3rd to the 6th of June in five venues: Paraninfo de la Universidad de La Laguna, Espacio la Granja, Teatro Guimerá, Centro de Arte La Recova and Auditorio de Tenerife. This edition’s programme starts with the Canary Islands première: Dosis de paraíso, by the Sharon Fridman Company. This co-production of Auditorio de Tenerife could already be enjoyed in Madrid at the theatre Teatros del Canal. It will be on stage on Thursday this week at the Teatro Guimerá. Two of the companies that will attend this FAM 21 edition were distinguished with the National Dance Award. The company 'La Intrusa', takes the stage of Teatro Guimerá on Saturday with the show “It's a wrap (Kubrick is dead). The company of Daniel Abreu takes that stage on Sunday with the show 'El hijo'

Apart from Abreu's solo, another seven shows make up the proposal in this platform of contemporary Spanish dance that is the FAM. Ina, by Paloma Hurtado and Daniel Morales; DANCE, NO GOAL, by Carlota Mantecón; El vuelo by the choreographer and dancer Daniel Morales; LA CARNE by Paula Quintana; The performance ‘Petitdanza’, by the dance company of Natalia Medina Esto que tú ves, by Javier Cuevas and Paula Quintana; El pastor, a co-production by Auditorio de Tenerife and the company Nómada. 

During the exclusive session for programmers which is titled Work in Progress, several artists will show their latest works in progress: ‘Sutil’ by Laura Marrero, ‘Schwanengesang (Der Held)’, by Javier Arozena, ‘Tun/La’ by Carmen Macías and ‘La orilla de mi piel’ by Acerina Toledo.

The Auditorio de Tenerife, cultural space linked to the Department of Culture of Tenerife Island Council, is managed by its Director of Culture, Enrique Arriaga. It offers three concerts and two workshops as part of the FMUC 2021 programme. This year's edition kicks off on Saturday, 29 May with a workshop. On Tuesday, 1 June 2021 at 7:30 pm, the first show takes place: Música de hoy para trío, by NeoArs Sonora. Tickets are on sale. 

The main objective of the Ensemble NeoArs Sonora is to support and foster the excellence of contemporary music. ‘Música de hoy para trío’ (Today’s music for trio) shows the sound possibilities for a flute, cello and piano trio. The concert takes place in the Chamber Hall and will be played by Juan Carlos Chornet, flute; Antonio Jesús Cruz, piano; and Kathleen Balfe, cello.

The percussion workshop that takes place in the Auditorio de Tenerife is related to body percussion, and the dancer Jep Meléndez will be in charge of it. Another masterclass, a choreographic workshop on how to apply classical music to contemporary flamenco dance, will be given by the dancer Fernando Romero on 8 June 2021. The workshop is aimed at professionals or dancers with a middle-high level of flamenco and Spanish dance.

The next concert is titled Diálogos. Debussy y Stravinsky desde el prisma del baile flamenco (Dialogues. Debussy and Stravinsky from the Flamenco dance perspective). On the 9 June at 7:30 pm, the starring dancer Fernando Romero, the piano duo Lechado-Kucháeva and the 'Ensemble Música Viva' with Verónica Cagigao and Carolina Alcaraz will give their concert.

The next appointment with the FMUC festival takes place on 17 June at 7:30 pm with the début of 'Collage". This piece was composed for the festival by the Tenerife-born musician Francis Hernández, who will conduct the show and play the piano with the percussion and brass group of the Music Conservatory of the Canary Islands.

Both bands will play on Sunday in the Chamber Hall

The Auditorio de Tenerife, cultural space linked to the Department of Culture of Tenerife Island Council, is managed by the islands’ Minister of Culture Enrique Arriaga. On Sunday, the 30th of May, at 11:30, the bands La Esperanza and Isorana, respectively from La Guancha and Guía de Isora, offer a concert. The event takes place at the Chamber Hall and is part of the ‘Primavera Musical’ cycle, which is organised since 2005 by the federation 'Federación Tinerfeña de Bandas de Música' with the collaboration of Tenerife Island Council.

The ensemble ‘La Esperanza’ will be conducted by Jesús Agomar González. It has prepared a programme with four traditional pieces from the Canary Islands: the pasodobles ‘Santa Cruz de Tenerife’, by Antonio González Santamaría,and ‘Canta Tenerife’, by Santiago Reig; and the popular songs ‘Malagueñas canarias’, by Miguel Castillo Alfonso, and ‘Sombras del Nublo’, by Néstor Álamo, both arranged by the director, Jesús Agomar.

The ensemble ‘Isorana’ will be conducted by Francisco Carvajal. During this new performance it will offer a repertoire that includes two pasodobles from the Valencia-born composer Ferrer Ferrán: ‘Lorena Tomás’ and ‘Amunt Pirris’; “Over the rainbow”, by Harold Arlen, to conclude with the pasodoble ‘La Isorana’, by the Valencia-born composer José Luis Peiró Reig.

The performance of these two groups closes the May concerts of the Primavera Musical cycle, which will continue with three more concerts in June. The bands Las Candelas (Candelaria) and La Candelaria (Arafo) play on the 12th of June in the Symphonic Hall; the ensembles Fasnia, Alcaraván (San Juan de la Rambla) and Amigos del Arte (San Andrés, de Santa Cruz) play on the 13th of June at 11:30 in the Chamber Hall. That day at 6:00 pm this year's edition ends in the Symphonic Hall with the bands La Luz (Guía de Isora) and Princesa Yaiza (El Rosario).

El organista zamorano Juan María Pedrero da vida al instrumento este domingo a las 12:00 horas

El Auditorio de Tenerife, espacio que depende del área de Cultura del Cabildo que dirige el consejero Enrique Arriaga, ofrece este domingo [día 30] a las 12:00 horas el concierto Entre lo francés y lo germano, en el que el organista zamorano Juan María Pedrero dará vida al icónico instrumento de la Sala Sinfónica.

El programa, una amplia paleta de lenguajes y estilos que abarca los siglos XVII y XX, tiene como punto en común la forma barroca passacaglia, passacaille (del español pasacalle), consistente en un bajo ostinato con un número indeterminado de variaciones. Para la Premio Canarias 2021 y miembro de la Real Academia Canaria de Bellas Artes de San Miguel Arcángel, Rosario Álvarez, esta forma “desafía la inventiva de los creadores y la imaginación de los oyentes”.

La musicóloga explica que el programa está “encuadrado por obras francesas del barroco André Raison y de aquellos miembros de la nueva escuela de órgano como Olivier Messiaen y Jehan Alain que encierran a cuatro potentes compositores alemanes que van desde el omnipresente Johan Sebastian Bach hasta el postromántico Max Reger pasando por el gran admirador del primero, el romántico Félix Mendelssohn, o por un autor eminentemente operístico como Wagner, del que Juan María Pedrero incluye aquí su propia transcripción del preludio del Acto I de Lohengrin”.

Juan María Pedrero, nacido en Zamora y formado en Barcelona y Francia, es miembro numerario de la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de Granada, director artístico de la Academia Internacional de Órgano que se celebra cada año en septiembre, y desde 2004 es profesor de órgano en el Conservatorio de dicha ciudad.

El órgano del Auditorio, de Tenerife, construido por el prestigioso maestro organero Albert Blancafort y su equipo, es un instrumento del siglo XXI único por su diseño pero también por su sonoridad y registros. Los sonidos surgen de los 3.835 tubos que se alojan en las paredes de la emblemática Sala Sinfónica, los cuales son manejados desde el escenario por la consola, con cuatro teclados, donde toca el organista. Además, se podrían añadir otros teclados externos, así como un órgano positivo también diseñado por Blancafort.

Las entradas se pueden adquirir hasta una hora antes del comienzo del espectáculo en la página web www.auditoriodetenerife.com y de forma telefónica en el 902 317 327 y en la taquilla de lunes a viernes de 10:00 a 17:00 horas y sábados de 10:00 a 14:00 horas. El usuario tendrá que elegir entre una o dos butacas prefijadas y distribuidas por la sala previamente. Se ruega al público llegar al recinto con antelación suficiente para realizar una entrada escalonada a la sala.

El Mercado de las Artes Performativas del Atlántico Sur se desarrollará del 14 al 18 de diciembre de forma presencial

MAPAS, Mercado de las Artes Performativas del Atlántico Sur, celebrará su cuarta edición del 14 al 18 de diciembre de 2021 en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria y Santa Cruz de Tenerife con el objeto de generar un entorno de confianza y de recuperación de la cultura empresarial para las artes en vivo en un momento decisivo. El encuentro, organizado por el Instituto Canario de Desarrollo Cultural (ICDC) del Gobierno de Canarias, Cabildo de Tenerife, Cabildo de Gran Canaria, unahoramenos y Circulart, con la colaboración del Ayuntamiento de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria y Ayuntamiento de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, adquiere así una dimensión regional con vocación de marcar un punto de inflexión en una edición que se adapta al contexto actual y a las necesidades de agrupaciones artísticas y programadores que, con su apoyo y participación, respaldan esta cita anual como referente para la internacionalización de las industrias creativas.

Los detalles de este encuentro fueron dados a conocer hoy [martes 25] por el viceconsejero de Cultura y Patrimonio Cultural del Gobierno de Canarias, Juan Márquez; la consejera de Cultura del Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Guacimara Medina; el consejero de Cultura del Cabildo de Tenerife, Enrique Arriaga; la concejala de Cultura del Ayuntamiento de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Encarna Galván; Gladys de León, concejala de Cultura del Ayuntamiento de Santa Cruz de Tenerife; y Mario Vega, director de MAPAS. Todos los presentes coincidieron en resaltar que el Mercado de las Artes Performativas del Atlántico Sur se ha convertido en un proyecto que ha aunado a las diferentes instituciones canarias en una estrategia común para desarrollar un modelo para la cultura del futuro.

Será una edición estratégica en la que Canarias se convertirá en el foco de referencia internacional de los profesionales de la música en vivo, el teatro de calle, la danza contemporánea, el circo y el teatro de sala creados y desarrollados en África, Latinoamérica y sur de Europa (España y Portugal). Su celebración de forma presencial, en un entorno sanitario seguro, ofrece la posibilidad de afianzar las relaciones comerciales, el intercambio o el fortalecimiento de redes y circuitos. No en vano, MAPAS es el primer mercado de compraventa profesional de las artes escénicas y la música en vivo del Atlántico Sur, y las posibilidades de recuperar los encuentros personales cobran más valor para la reactivación artística y económica del sector.

En su compromiso de optimizar su convocatoria, alcance y representatividad, MAPAS pone a disposición de creadores y creadoras y agencias de representación un espacio que potencia la circulación de sus obras y servicios culturales, además de una serie de herramientas para que puedan generar sinergias con programadores y programadoras de todo el mundo. En ese sentido, este año vuelve a tener en las muestras artísticas, las reuniones de negocios, la formación y los encuentros internacionales sus líneas de desarrollo principales. Todo ello concentrado en cinco días de actividad artística y comercial orientados a fortalecer las industrias culturales y creativas como un sector estratégico de la economía del conocimiento, mostrando las tendencias de futuro en clave de especialización, tecnología y sostenibilidad.

Esta cuarta edición de MAPAS –prevista inicialmente para julio de 2020 y que fue aplazada debido a la crisis sanitaria– programará las actividades relacionadas con las artes escénicas en espacios de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria como el Teatro Cuyás, SIT Sala Insular de Teatro, Auditorio Alfredo Kraus y Teatro Pérez Galdós (Fundación Canaria Auditorio y Teatro de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria), Edificio Miller y Teatro Guiniguada los días 14, 15 y 16 de diciembre. Asimismo, el Auditorio de Tenerife, el Teatro Guimerá, el espacio escénico del Centro de Arte La Recova, el Espacio La Granja y TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes acogerán en Santa Cruz de Tenerife del 16 al 18 de diciembre una completa programación artística y profesional de la industria musical.

Con todo ello, el Mercado de las Artes Performativas del Atlántico Sur prepara una edición que no solo enriquezca sus contenidos como uno de los grandes motores de crecimiento para los profesionales –propiciando la formación, la colaboración y los encuentros de negocios– sino también para la población canaria y visitantes, ya que la presentación de espectáculos en vivo llevan consigo un aporte necesario en la recuperación de la vida cotidiana y la convivencia con nuevos escenarios tras el cambio de paradigma ocasionado por la COVID-19.

Apertura de convocatoria

El periodo de inscripción tanto para artistas, compañías y agencias procedentes de Latinoamérica, África y sur de Europa como para responsables de programación de todo el mundo que quieran participar en este encuentro internacional que se desarrollará en las dos capitales canarias se abre el próximo 31 de mayo.

La convocatoria para creadores y creadoras y agencias de management, booking y distribución de artes escénicas en vivo –música, teatro, danza, artes de la calle y circo– permanecerá abierta hasta el 31 de julio de 2021 y los resultados del proceso de selección (con una cuota del 50% de agrupaciones canarias), que estará a cargo de un comité asesor integrado por expertos de reconocida trayectoria internacional en el ámbito de la cultura, se harán públicos en septiembre. 

Los responsables de programación, directores artísticos, curadores, comisarios de festivales, gestores culturales de instituciones públicas o privadas y empresarios de las industrias de las artes performativas están invitados a inscribirse para tomar parte de los encuentros de negocios y también a conocer las propuestas artísticas de los tres continentes que se exhibirán durante esos días en ambas Islas. La inscripción es gratuita y permanecerá abierta hasta el 29 de noviembre.

MAPAS 2021, una edición para la recuperación

En un contexto marcado principalmente por la necesidad de recuperación de las industrias culturales y creativas, MAPAS centra todos sus esfuerzos en programar una edición dedicada a potenciar espacios de conocimiento que contribuyan a relanzar la actividad de las artes en vivo regional, nacional e internacional, así como ofrecer el reencuentro profesional de creadores y creadoras, agencias y programadores.

La crisis del coronavirus ha sido un desafío médico, logístico y económico global, pero también es un desafío cultural tanto para gobernantes como para la ciudadanía. MAPAS se convierte en un espacio de encuentro esencial para abordar problemáticas comunes, así como para proponer reflexiones y acciones de futuro no solo para el sector, sino para su relación con una sociedad también en crisis. El proyecto surgió de la necesidad de poner el foco en las Islas Canarias como referente internacional de las artes perfomativas del Atlántico Sur, una posición que se justifica por su ubicación, a modo de enlace tricontinental.

Las cifras de participación de ediciones anteriores de MAPAS, con más de 15.000 asistentes, representan también un impacto económico directo sobre proveedores de bienes y servicios locales y en la actividad artística isleña. En la edición 2019 se celebraron 2.200 citas en las ruedas de negocios entre 124 agrupaciones artísticas y musicales de 27 países y 23 agencias de booking, management y distribución de África, Latinoamérica y sur de Europa con 149 programadores procedentes de 40 países de todo el mundo. El debate, la formación y los encuentros internacionales también tuvieron una presencia relevante en las actividades paralelas para los agentes implicados en el sector cultural. Se realizaron 18 actividades académicas con una asistencia total de 670 personas que participaron en mesas redondas, charlas, conferencias y reuniones sectoriales. Estos encuentros se completaron con 56 muestras de música y artes escénicas abiertas al público.

The guest pianist Rafael Bechacz will play under the direction of Víctor Pablo Pérez

The Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife (OST) is a project of the Island Council’s Department of Culture which is directed by Enrique Arriaga. This new concert will offer a look at the 19^th century through selected works by Chopin and Sibelius, key Romantic composers who also represent the musical nationalism movement. On Friday, the 28^th of May at 7:30 pm, Víctor Pablo Pérez, the honorary conductor of the Orchestra, will conduct the musical programme. During this concert, the Polish pianist Rafael Bechacz will make his debut with the OST.

Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849) is considered to be the first "poet of the piano" and one of the most attractive figures of the Romantic period. He mainly composed for piano. His music is highly regarded for its lyricism, purity, delicate charm and virtuosity. The Piano Concerto No. 1 in E Minor, which in fact is the second concert chronologically speaking, belongs to the composer’s Polish period before moving to Paris and making it his adopted city. The concert was premièred in 1830 in Warsaw. It was also the last concert Chopin gave in his home country and the second concert to launch his career as a prodigy.  The result is undoubtedly the work of a genius with a unique voice.

Finland had no significant musical tradition before Jean Sibelius (1865-1957). The composer’s early works were imbued with nationalist fervour and had a late Romantic style too. The Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife will play his Symphony No. 2 in D Major during the second half of the concert. This work marks the end of a highly creative and fruitful period known as "nationalist romanticism", which he rejected in later scores. It is the most universally known of the seven symphonies Sibelius wrote, and it was composed after 'Finland'. According to critics, this symphony has "a significant political component". Sibeliuscompleted it in 1902. The work was adopted by the Finnish as a song of combat and liberation against the Russian oppressor and the musical expression of their nationalist aspirations.

Víctor Pablo Pérez, the honorary conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife, studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid and at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich. He was artistic director and chief conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Asturias between 1980 and 1988 and of the Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife between 1986 and 2005. In 1993 he started to conduct the Symphony Orchestra of Galicia, a task he carried out until 2013. That year he joined the Orchestra and Choir of the Community of Madrid as artistic director and conductor. Since January 2017 he has been the artistic director of the Youth Orchestra of the Canary Islands.

Rafał Blechacz has been distinguished with numerous awards and accolades from critics, producers and artists as one of the best interpreters of Chopin's piano works of his generation. He started playing the piano at the age of five and finished his piano studies in 2007 at the Bydgoszcz Academy of Music with the piano professor Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń. A year earlier, in 2006, he signed an exclusive agreement with the German record company ‘Deutsche Grammophon’, becoming thus the second Polish pianist after Krystian Zimerman to sign with said label.

The three ensembles will play during this Sunday's concert, which is part of the musical cycle 'Primavera Musical'

The Auditorio de Tenerife is a cultural space linked to the Department of Culture of Tenerife Island Council that is managed by the islands’ Minister of Culture Enrique Arriaga. On Sunday 23^rd of May from 11:30 am on, the venue offers a concert which is part of the cycle ‘Primavera Musical’. The tickets are sold out. On this new occasion, the Auditorium's Chamber Hall will receive the music bands of San Miguel, ‘Unión y Amistad’ (Santa Cruz) and ‘Nueva Banda’ from Igueste de Candelaria.

The concert starts with the ensemble San Miguel under the direction of José Carlos Fariña. The band will play four pieces of its repertoire: Alpenfest Marsch, by Robert Allmend; ‘Hallelujah’, by Leonard Cohen and arranged by Frank Bernaerts; ‘Coldplay on stage’, by Coldplay and arranged by Michael Brown, to finish with ‘Can`t take my eyes off you’, by Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio.

Iván Yeray Rodríguez conducts the music band ‘Unión y Amistad’ (Sta. Cruz de Tenerife). They will play the works Amparito Roca, by Jaime Texidor; Pasadena, by Jacob de Haan, to finish with Qué rico el mambo, by Pérez Prado and arranged by Nicanor.

The ensemble ‘Nueva Banda’ from Igueste de Candelaria attends on that date at the Auditorio de Tenerife under the direction of Luis Porfirio Torres to play ‘Nuyorican Son’, by Bobby Sanabria; Café sin leche, by Claudio Roditi & Karl Watson, and ‘Unity Jam’, by Tony Succar.

The musical cycle 'Primavera Musical' was created in 2005 as an initiative by the federation 'Federación Tinerfeña de Bandas de Música' and with the permanent collaboration of Tenerife Island Council. A total of 35 ensembles will play at the Auditorium during this new edition. With the three bands scheduled for this Sunday’s concert, some twenty-six groups will have played at the Cabildo's cultural venue. The remaining 9 bands will continue offering concerts on 30 May, on 12 June (Symphonic Hall) to conclude on 13 June. On that last day, a morning session will be featured in the Chamber Hall and an afternoon concert will be given in the Symphony Hall. Performances in the Chamber Hall will take place at 11:30 a.m. and those in the Symphony Hall will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Raúl Cantizano and ‘Los Voluble’ feature this Saturday's show, and the in-residence "Cabin fever" finishes on that day

The Auditorio de Tenerife is a cultural space linked to the Department of Culture of Tenerife Island Council that is managed by the islands’ Minister of Culture Enrique Arriaga. This week two initiatives of the NUMAcircuit Festival (Creation and Experimentation Festival of the Canary Islands) are presented. On Saturday, 22 May, the in-residence 'Cabin fever' finishes with the presentation of a show that is already sold out: the audio-visual concert Zona Acordonada by Raúl Cantizano and ‘Los Voluble’ at 7:30 pm in the Chamber Hall. ‘Zona acordonada' is a hybrid and transmedia guitar concert. Musicians use guitar, electronics, flamenco and live audiovisual creation to pull on the strings, to shift points of view and to show our society, art and culture during this "new normality”.

The aim of this project is to research into a new scenic, visual, performative and musical language, expanding the usual space that the guitar player has. This atypical recital broadens the guitar space with lighting, live video, action and music to create a renewed and modern format. It also gathers different ways of understanding the stage and the instrument, from its most classical to its most innovative dimension.

Raúl Cantizano and ‘Los Voluble’ have been working together since the year 2012. The different methodologies and interest in working with flamenco style from unusual and different perspectives led them to create DEF ‘DiálogosElectroFlamencos’ (Electronic-Flamenco Dialogues) together with Santiago Barber. These Electronic-Flamenco Dialogues open up spaces in the flamenco style to further search for mediation, training and experimentation. They also design other creative methodological devices for artistic and social reflection.

The artistic in-residence Cabin fever approaches concepts like eroticism, power and isolation. To do so, the artists use aesthetic and expressive tools such as body and object’s movement, sound (of bodies, voice, instruments and objects), video, space itself and its potential transformations.

The member artists of this in-residence are María García Fuentes (technical production, set design and lighting designer) Cristina Hernández Cruz (dance, performance, actress), Alejandra Galo (audio-visual narrator, scriptwriter and cultural firebrand) and Elsa Mateu Tricás (cellist, lighting designer and set designer).

Through these disciplines, the in-residence aims to generate a code that relates them, that transmits and evokes the different experiences and feelings born of all those concepts. Cabin fever is an erotic-immersive experience that shows how our senses produce an emotion that is transmitted through euphoria in all its forms.

The Auditorio de Tenerife is an institution linked to the Department of Culture of Tenerife Island Council that is managed by the island's Minister of Culture Enrique Arriaga. The institution presents the FAM 2021 edition (Arts of Movement Festival) comprised of 24 contemporary Spanish dance performances. After the special edition experienced during 2020, the FAM festival retakes the usual dates with shows that will take place in five different venues: Paraninfo de la Universidad de La Laguna, Espacio la Granja, Teatro Guimerá, Centro de Arte La Recova and Auditorio de Tenerife. 

Enrique Arriaga stresses that "the intensive programme is comprised of 24 shows by national companies. On this occasion, we have made a special emphasis on the Canary Islands’ proposals". He also highlights that "four performances will be offered to school children and social groups". The performances include a premier in the Canary Islands and two companies distinguished with the 'Premio Nacional de Danza’ award. Some twenty national and international programmers have been invited to watch all the shows in person and online.

During the kick-off day, six shows will be shown. The first performance titled ‘Ina’, by Paloma Hurtado and Daniela Morales is scheduled on 3 June at 10:00 a.m. in Paraninfo de la Universidad de La Laguna; the programme continues with DANCE, NO GOAL by Carlota Mantecón in the venue Espacio La Granja at 12:30. The island's school children will also have the chance to see both performances.

The evening programme starts with the Canary Islands première: Dosis de paraíso, by the Sharon Fridman Companya in Teatro Guimerá. This co-production of Auditorio de Tenerife can also be enjoyed in Madrid from 26 to 30 Maya at the theatre Teatros del Canal. The art centre 'Centro de Arte la Recova' (adjoining space of Teatro Guimerá) welcomes the duet Ruffle, from DeNada Dance Theatre, to its newly opened stage. 

The first day concludes with the puppets solo 'After the party' by Thomas Noone Dance, scheduled at 5:30 pm in the Auditorium's hall Sala Castillo. The last show titled Sintempo, by the flamenco dancer Sara Cano takes place at 7:00 pm in the Auditorium's Chamber Hall.

On Friday, 4 June at 10:00 am, the venue Paraninfo de la Universidad de La Laguna welcomes the show ‘El vuelo’ by Daniel Morales, a Canary Islands-born choreographer and dancer. At 12:30, Espacio La Granja hosts ‘La carne’, by Paula Quintana, which was premièred during the FAM 20 edition. Social groups will also enjoy both performances.

At 4:00 pm, the dance company 'La Quebrá' offers its show 'GET NO' at the Teatro Guimerá, while the show ‘Campo cerrado’ by Daniel Doña's company is scheduled at 5:00 pm in the Centro de Arte La Recova. At 5:30 pm, Auditorio de Tenerife welcomes the triptych ‘Cualquier mañana’, by Álvaro Esteban and Laura Aris in its hall Sala Castillo. The Chamber Hall offers the show Nocturne by Leonor Leal, scheduled from 7:00 pm on.

On Saturday, 5 June from 10:30 am on, Pau Arán brings his ‘Lettre d'amour’ to the venue Espacio La Granja.  At 12:00, the company 'La Intrusa', distinguished with the National Dance Award 2015, takes the stage of Teatro Guimerá with the show “It's a wrap (Kubrick is dead)”. At 5:00 pm, Auditorio de Tenerife hosts a double performance outdoors: ‘147 abrazos’, by the Sharon Fridman Company, and Laika, by Isabel Vázquez. The programme continues in the Chamber Hall at 6:30 pm with the show ‘La oscilante’, by Pol Jiménez. The last show ‘Trama’ by Roser López Espinosa, starts at 8:00 pm at the Auditorium's Symphony Hall. 

The FAM 2021 edition concludes with a family show scheduled on Sunday, 6 June. The performance ‘Petitdanza’, by the dance company of Natalia Medina, starts at 10:30 am in Espacio La Granja. On the other hand, Teatro Guimerá hosts at 12:00 ‘El hijo’, the last show by Daniel Abreu a Tenerife-born dancer and choreographer who won the 2014 National Dance Prize.

The afternoon session kicks off at 4:00 pm at the Auditorium's hall Sala Castillo with an exclusive session for programmers which is titled Work in Progress. During the session, several artists will show their latest works in progress: ‘Sutil’ by Laura Marrero, ‘Schwanengesang (Der Held)’, by Javier Arozena, ‘Tun/La’ by Carmen Macías and ‘La orilla de mi piel’ by Acerina Toledo.

The performance ‘Esto que tú ves’ by Javier Cuevas and Paula Quintana will take place outdoors of the Auditorium. At 7:00 pm, the Chamber Hall hosts ‘El pastor’, a co-production of Auditorio de Tenerife and the company Nómada, which was premièred during the FAM 20 edition. At 8:00 pm, this year's edition ends in the Symphonic Hall with the show ‘Kenophobia’, by the company Osa + Mujica.

This Thursday, the 20th of May at 7:30 pm, it offers the concert ‘Circa 1721’. The ensemble will play works by Bach, Händel and Vivaldi. Tickets for this concert are sold out. The Baroque Orchestra of Tenerife, under the direction of Alfonso Sebastián, wants to pay a new tribute to Bach and his contemporaries, Händel and Vivaldi, with a chamber music selection of works that have accompanied us since 1721. The concert coincides with the 300^th anniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach's final autographed copies of the Brandenburg Concertos.

The programme comprises four pieces. The concert will begin with the Concerto No. 7, in D minor by Vivaldi, to continue with the Trio Sonata in F Major Op. 2, No. 4. HWV 389 by Händel to finish with two works by Bach: Prelude and fugue in c major, and the Brandenburg Concerto in D major.

The orchestra members are Alfonso Sebastián (harpsichord, organ and conductor), Adrián Linares, Baroque Violin and first violin), Pablo Sosa (transverse flute), Laura Díaz (Baroque violin), Givanni Déniz (Baroque violin), Iván Sáez, Baroque viola), Candela Gómez (Baroque cello) and Tomás López-Perea (double bass).

Tomorrow Wednesday, the 19^th of May at 11:00 am, the Baroque Orchestra of Tenerife will also introduce this proposal to seventy primary schoolchildren of Punta Brava, Puerto de la Cruz who will attend said concert. 

Alfonso Sebastián (Zaragoza, 1974) will conduct again The Baroque Orchestra of Tenerife during this concert. The Aragon-born musician is the guest conductor of the 'Orquesta Vigo430' and a member of the group 'Los Músicos de Su Alteza'. He not only collaborates with the Tenerife ensemble, but also with the ensemble La Tempestad, Al Ayre Español, the baroque orchestras of Seville and the University of Salamanca and the Symphony Orchestra of Castilla y León. He has been a teacher for harpsichord and ground bass at the professional Music Conservatory of Salamanca since 1999.

The Baroque Orchestra of Tenerife was founded by the association 'Asociación para la Normalización de la Música Antigua en Canarias'. It has organised this concert in collaboration with the ‘San Miguel Arcángel Royal Canarian Academy of Fine Arts’. The aim of this association is to promote young performers who play period styles and instruments. To do so, it provides the appropriate coordination platform to promote the historical musical heritage and to get new audiences closer to all musical forms of the 17^th and 18^th centuries.

During this Sunday's performance, the contemporary dance piece will merge choreography, flesh and grammar

The Auditorio de Tenerife is a cultural space linked to the Department of Culture of Tenerife Island Council that is managed by the councillor Enrique Arriaga. On Sunday, the 23^rd of May, it presents the dance show Teorema, by the choreographer and dancer Javier Martín. This contemporary dance piece merges choreography, flesh and grammar and will take place next Sunday [23 May] at 7:30 pm at the Auditorium's Symphony Hall. 

In Teorema, the body's resonances comprise a soundscape for dance. They unfold in a score-like space where objects such as smoke, coal, rope, ice, or glass are mysteriously arranged to bloom. The dancing body livens up the space for dance. The body symphony is the space symphony and vice versa. 

Teorema is a proposal on the relationship between the inner and the outer world, between matter and memory. It encourages us to question and break with the inertias through which we perceive ourselves and relate to our environment. Nothing is as it seems.

The creative process of Teorema went from October 2019 until its premiere in November 2020 at the cultural centre Paco Rabal (Madrid). The premiere coincided with the 15^th anniversary of Javier Martín's professional career. The Galician creator acknowledges that during all this time, he has researched the arts of movement from an epistemological and critical perspective.

Since he started to dance professionally in 2005, Javier Martín has created sixteen full-length stage pieces and more than twenty short performances or specific pieces for several cultural spaces. Through the work he is presenting at the Auditorio de Tenerife, the Galician creator considers it "a project of maturity or progress in my career but true to itself".
